Ten jars this time! All sealed as well, which is nice. For some reason, most years one jar of apple butter just refuses to seal.
One was a false seal and unsealed over night. Bah. It’s in the fridge now!
Any suggested recipes?
We have an old tree and it makes a lot of small, wooden, tough apples. They’re mostly pecked away by birds or squirrels.
Was thinking a good use would be applesauce, pies, or Apple Butter.
This was 7ish lbs of apples, peels left on. 1/2 cup sugar, 1/2 brown sugar, couple teaspoons on cinnamon, a tablespoon of vanilla, a 1/4th teaspoon salt, and some nutmeg (1/4th?). Cooked down for ages. The apples were winesap, which aren’t very small or tough. I might cut some of the old tree apples with more modern sweeter apples to help if the ones made from just the old tree isn’t sweet enough.
Awesome, thanks! They’re all gone for this year, but will save this for next year’s crop.
All ten jars!Looks awesome.
Thanks! I might make another batch if the roadside stand has more winesaps!
