The Conservatives, the Star has learned, are about to show Canadians why their Leader Pierre Poilievre should be prime minister.
The article talks about attempts to amalgamate the various factions of the CPC—mostly the divisions between the social conservatives and the more ‘libertarian’ types. I think the end result is a party that is ill-defined when it comes to policy.
It is hard to say what they really stand for. It seems like their platform is mostly defined by whatever the Liberals are not doing, rather than positing their own programs or measures. To this, how would you galvanize support if you don’t really stand for anything? What will people rally around?
It’s quite obvious that the strategy is to hold on and hope for a Liberal collapse, which might work, but probably not result in anything long lasting for the CPC. It’s quite likely that the Liberals would just use that time to re-organize and take back parliament in the next election.
