In-state tuition is cheaper than going elsewhere. Some people have no choice
Some schools/programs are better than others - often it’s all some of us can afford, and it’s amazing what going away to university can do to expose you to different viewpoints and not end up like your parents.
Fun fact: Mike Johnson and Steve Scalise both went to LSU. (As did Don Lemon.)
