Locals support and volunteer at Haitian-owned businesses to stand against Trump and Vance’s anti-immigrant lies

The line down the center of the Rose Goute Creole restaurant on Springfield, Ohio’s South Limestone Street is halfway out the door. It’s been like this ever since former president Donald Trump falsely accused immigrants in Springfield of eating cats and dogs during a televised debate on 10 September.

As Trump and JD Vance, the Republican vice-presidential candidate and Ohio senator, continue to spread false information about Haitians in Springfield, regular people from the city and beyond are taking it upon themselves to seize back the narrative around immigrants in the Ohio city.

And the outpouring of support aimed at countering Trump’s damaging comments hasn’t been limited to volunteering.

Many community healthcare centers and support organizations that have been assisting Haitians in Springfield for several years are reporting increased donations and contributions coinciding with the furor of the past 10 days.

JD Vance: See, just like I said, I created “stories so that the American media actually pays attention,” and now these Haitian businesses are getting the community support that they needed, just as planned!

Those 20k Haitians cannot vote, that’s why they are such a juicy target. I’m also interested in how the broader community will vote, but one thing is Shure… they have some klan members in that community.

The bedrock of cultural acceptance “cuisine”. There is nothing more powerful for me to get out of my comfort zone than hearing, “…the food is badass over there”. I got mugged 40 minutes after arriving in Mexico City; I can safely say the comida was worth it.

I’m glad to see this. I’m not the best historian, but Haiti seems to have one of the roughest histories. Everyone who’s ever had anything to do with it from its colonization to present day has left it a worse place than they’ve found it. Even the modern aid that gets sent there is done thoughtlessly and seems to hurt them more than help them.

I think they’re an amazing and persistently strong people, but I do not fault any of them the slightest bit for wanting to get out.

Anything that positively helps the Haitian people is such a joy to hear about.

I choose to believe in the goodwill of the American people, and this is a wonderful demonstration of that trait.

It’s this very goodwill that the pedophile party is fearful of.
