2·1 month agoWell, I doubt the benefits, too, but I still take calcium, vitamin C, a multi-vitamin, and pop other pills when I can afford 'em, because this is America, damn it. The food we’re offered is generally processed to hell, but I don’t have the time, budget, or inclination to make an organic lentil stew every night. So like most folks, I take vitamins and supplements, cuz I figgur there’s a slightly higher chance it’ll help than it’ll hurt.

1·2 months agoFrustrating, right? The Times has been rolling out this anti-feature to random users, and apparently once you’re selected it’ll always demand logging in. You will be spammed, you will be sold. I set up a dummy email, so they’ll be spamming and selling the ether.

1·2 months agoPre-Trump, I thought I grokked how rotten everything was, but watching the one-by-one asskissing collapse of the few institutions I’d sorta respected — like the NAS — is srsly depressing.

2·3 months ago“Haw, haw, yeah, I remember that fuckwad.”
Didn’t know there was still a scent of it anywhere, but when I was a kid (50+ years ago) Tacoma indeed flat-out stank. Even driving through, you’d roll up your windows and close the vents, and it was all over Tacoma, not just in some tiny enclaves of stink.

21·4 months agoIf there’s no evidence beyond an anonymous tip, this is the wrong response. Make enough anonymous tips, and every kid in America could be required to sit for an interview, over and over.

182·4 months agoThat night, the twins slept at their grandparents’ house. The authorities required them to sit alone for the interviews with the CPS workers, as is common during such investigations.
Being forced to “sit alone” with CPS staffers is pretty rough for a kid, and if CPS “requires” it without first requiring some damned evidence, that’s a form of child abuse.

2·4 months agoWhen Mr. Landor reported for a five-month sentence for drug possession in Louisiana, he had not cut his hair for almost two decades, in keeping with his faith. His dreadlocks fell nearly to his knees.
Four months into his term, in 2020, he was transferred to a new prison. He carried with him a copy of a 2017 legal opinion that held that inmates must be allowed to keep their dreadlocks under a federal law protecting prisoners’ religious freedom.
When he pulled out a copy of that decision, a guard threw it in the trash, according to court documents he filed in a later lawsuit.
Two guards then handcuffed Mr. Landor to a chair and forcibly shaved him bald.
Six of nine on the Supreme Court belong on the other side of the courtroom.

21·6 months agoThat headline is rubbish, so I assume the article is as well.
If I believed in God I’d simply know Trump is the antichrist, but it doesn’t matter. Trump seems to have absolute immunity for every crime, every scandal, every ghastly thing he says. Things have never and will never “look bad” for Trump until he’s dead, and if he dies while he’s President, rest assured JD Vance will be worse.
