It was a serious issue back then. People were wandering around on the Internet with root accounts. A lot of #linux IRC channels were kicking&banning anyone with “~root” or “root” ident with educational sentence like “Do not use root account as your ordinary account, check instructions”. We don’t see the issue widespread today since distros did very good intended “dark patterns” to push users to regular user accounts. Linux (or UNIX) “root” account is true god mode. E.g. infamous “rm” as root joke (!) could even affect Windows running WSL2, so MS had to implement special workarounds.

There is something working out there which can be implemented by anyone even including entire countries and we keep seeing YouTube links everywhere. Even NASA gave up their streaming service. It once supported any kind of player and they didn’t even need to pay for it. Any streaming host will carry NASA TV, they may even pay extra for the privilege.

I just remember Jabber/XMPP federation which included Google. Once Google decided they got big enough, they abandoned it. Of course nothing happened to the protocol itself, it is well and alive both on Fortune 500 and selected as official choice for presence protocol on internet2.edu

There is a demo application on Android (IAT) which can detect/flag any problematic looking photo. A tech like that (preferably foss) can be integrated to something and help overhelmed admins. Do not test it with problematic stuff Obviously it shouldn’t auto anything like Zuck does.

What is the point of posting this publicly? Like any CP, you should clean your cache/history in the most secure way possible (e.g. foss bleachbit) and alert both admins and the FBI.
