And Leto I was well aware that being granted control over Arakkis was a trap being laid by the emperor and the Harkonens, even if he did still hold out hope he could outmaneuver it. I doubt they would have left him his nice cozy fiefdom back on Caladan to retreat to if he managed to escape.
