United Kingdom@feddit.uk•Former policeman loses citizenship over links to Russia in first-of-its-kind decisionEnglish
1·2 days agoI am surprised there hasn’t been more uproar about this. I only heard about this whilst listening to Novara Live, and I worry about the precedent it sets when someone who hasn’t been found guilty of committing a crime, can be stripped of their birth citizenship. To make matters worse, the government refuses to disclose the reason:
The evidence underpinning the revocation of Bullen’s citizenship has not been made public by the Home Office “in the interests of national security”.

United Kingdom@feddit.uk•Government Looks At Bringing In Tougher Laws To Restrict Fireworks SalesEnglish
3·2 days agoAs much as I love a fireworks display, I do welcome laws to restrict firework sales. Our dog becomes very anxious during the firework season, which can last weeks. There was a popular petition to reduce the maximum noise level for consumer fireworks from 120 to 90 decibels, which if implemented could help reduce the anxiety that many animals and people experience during the firework season.

London@feddit.uk•Summer festivals take another hit as the battle to protect London's parks goes onEnglish
2·9 days agoThanks for asking. This is complicated for me because I do love music festivals, however as someone who doesn’t have a garden, I also rely on public parks for running and exercising my dog. For me it comes down to who is organising these events, and what they give back to the community.
Back in the day, Field Day in Victoria Park was an event put on by a collective of London music promoters, and it only ran for a weekend. Now the events at Victoria Park are put on by AEG Presents, the world’s second music promoter, and this year they want permission to take over the park for 75 days - that’s almost a quarter of the year!

UK Politics@feddit.uk•Green Party London election candidate stands down after arson attack claimEnglish
7·18 days agoShe alleged it was orchestrated by members of the Jewish community, yet there is no mention from the police that those arrested are part of the community.
After four Hatzola ambulances in Golders Green were set alight on March 23, Ms Olawoyin had suggested the incident could have been orchestrated by members of the Jewish community.
Five people have now been arrested in connection with the attack. On Wednesday, the Met confirmed two British men, aged 19 and 20, and a 17-year-old dual British-Pakistani national, had been detained at separate addresses in east London.
Two British men, aged 47 and 45, were arrested last week on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life and have been bailed until later this month.

3·1 month agoThe article explains it better than I could:
The government will pay firms £3,000 for each unemployed young person they employ, under new plans to boost youth employment.
Alongside the new ‘job grants,’ the government will offer an apprenticeship incentive of £2,000 for each new employee aged 16 to 24 taken on by a small- and medium-sized enterprise.

11·2 months agoWhilst I can see the benefits of a nuclear deterrent, I do think there’s an argument for scrapping the Trident programme as it relies on US support. If there’s an alternative that makes us less reliant on the US, I think that should be explored.

According to the article, he has spent the last four years living in the UK, so it’s not that unreasonable to expect that’s where his support network is.
