I think broadly, the life-saving and pro-human efforts are simultaneously so important to our cause as communists but also difficult to articulate. A death statistic is easy; you just count the bodies. A life statistic is harder. There’s rising life expectancies and lowered child mortality, but fundamentally it’s really difficult to find people and point them out and say “in the alternate timeline where communists weren’t there, this person would be dead.”

One example that’s really clear, for instance, is communism’s opposition to fascism. Without this opposition, Eastern Europe, China, and likely the rest of the world would have been enslaved/genocide by the nazis and imperial Japan, at least for an extended period. The USSR’s opposition to nazism was so life-saving that Western Europe almost went communist, if not for the Marshall Plan. But this one is very transparent. Pointing out the importance of having an apartment vs being homeless from war and poverty, as you have highlighted, are all much subtler.

Well provided someone consents to “just” give you an egg (which may have moral issues but are far simpler by comparison) then yeah there’s much less to navigate

Could not find the Pol Pot post but I’m not shocked bc generally the predominant view is that the Pol Pot movement was a CIA-backed cudgel against (socialist) Vietnam and Laos instead of its own organic movement (though I have not investigated modern Cambodian history enough to affirm or deny these claims). In this sense, Cambodia is viewed as exceptional and not socialist, compared to say, the USSR, Cuba, China, Yugoslavia, Poland, GDR, etc. and even places that are viewed as genuine socialist attempts but utter failures like Yemen and Afghanistan.

This is your most recent “communism bad” post (I’m not going to go through your entire post history). Genuinely not a single reply to your post in the vein you described before. The stance you describe is so exceedingly uncommon on this platform that it cannot be found in any comment on this post of yours from a week ago.

Most of the rebuttals are “capitalism kills more” and “black book of communism (and related sources) bad” and “a lot of those are dead nazis and dead nazi fighters,” where implicit in all these claims is that places like the USSR, China, Cuba, Vietnam, etc. are socialist and striving for communism. This is in fact the exact opposite of your strawman.

This isn’t the prevailing attitude on this platform at all (and also not the prevailing attitude of the communists I’ve talked to irl) and so you saying this feels very fictitious and fabricated for a cheap political win against a strawman.

Actually, funny story. I have big eyes similar to hers. When I smile normally, they squint so I look like I’m closing my eyes or sleeping (and my eyelids are very trigger-happy with flash so it’s a double whammy). I then get the feedback to “open my eyes” and I end up looking insane like that photo. So it’s a lose-lose situation.
