Popular, well-acclaimed games in the genres he likes is probably a good place to start. Or even just popular, well-acclaimed PC games in general. I never used GamePass so I have no idea what is on there.
I would say that it might be worth getting games that are on GamePass (making the assumption this is console-only, I have no idea) for PC anyways if they have a thriving mod community. Mods are much harder to do on console than PC, and can help you squeeze many more hours out of the same game. Skyrim, Stardew Valley, Baldur’s Gate 3, and the Fallout series have tons of mods. I don’t believe Minecraft is on Steam, but it is also so full of mods.
