There’s a listing on eBay for a T580. Everythings seems fine just that the seller states that the external battery is not included but the internal battery is still intact. Even if I buy a battery separately, is this a good idea?

Probably. I’ve also got a T580 and like it for work. If it is a model with nVidia graphics don’t expect to use it for light gaming. The thermals in this thing are awful. CPU and GPU share a heatpipe so when one heats up the other does as well. And the GPU has a ridiculously low limit of 70° C. After hitting that it throttles so aggressively that you won’t even be able to run Quake 3.

A new generic battery will work better than an old, worn out genuine one. Just keep in mind that most of the 72WH generic batteries are actually around 60WH.

I actually think it’s a better deal if it’s missing the battery and priced accordingly. I’d much rather buy a fresh replacement battery myself than rely on the iffy battery that comes with a used laptop.
