For us all get anything off our chest, no matter how small. It’s cathartic.

What’s been needling you this week?

I slipped a disc in my spine a couple of weeks ago and my mobility is still limited and the pain is still bad. Our downstairs neighbour doesn’t seem to understand the concept of doorstops and instead he just slams his doors all day over and over again, maybe he’s pissed off at me because I stomped on the floor when he was playing loud music at midnight. On top of that there’s the bloke next door who has one of the most vile sounding smokers coughs I’ve ever heard, gets up for work at 4am and sounds like he’s wretching, lovely to be woken up by that. Plus the whole building constantly stinks of weed from another downstairs neighbour. Oh and we’re on the top floor so it’s been a million degrees. Urgh I can’t wait to not live in a block of flats anymore…but oh wait mortgage rates are fucked so no house for us yet - if ever. This thread is a good idea, thank you. I was able to talk about happy and positive things in this thread, and then come here and have a good moan.

Sometimes all you need is a good moan. I can commiserate with the (unwanted) weed smells - my brother vapes some several times a day. If he’s home, he’s more than likely vaping weed.

Hope you’re taking care with that slipped disk - sounds very unfun

‘They’ keep talking about how with interest rates going up, we’ll see housing prices crash but I’m starting to think it’s all a load of bollocks.

I don’t always mind the smell depending on what they’re smoking as I guess strains smell different but sometimes it’s rank and when it’s a few days in a row I start to feel a bit icky. My back is starting to improve slowly, thank you :)

Geez, that sounds like a lot. Hope you’re keeping your head up!

I wasn’t aware of those threads. Sounds like some crossover with /c/britishsuccess …

Aye, you gotta roll with the punches, right? Yeah I felt it was a shame that UKcasual was already made on lemmy.world rather than feddit.uk, so things are quite spread out / there’s crossover. That’s the nature of the Fediverse though! As I understand it from a comment I saw a while ago UKcasual already had 1k subscribers quite quickly so they didn’t want to lose that by deleting the community to move it here.

My first account was over at lemmy.world - that instance was quite large and well known before the Reddit exodus started. I don’t really log in over there much anymore - quite a fan of the smaller scale and more localised things here. It’s nice to have a reprieve from the ‘american culture’ that’s so prevalent on the internet.

In the end I made an account on both instances too, but mainly because they don’t seem to be federating very well. When I view lemmy.world communities from my feddit account stuff is missing and vice versa. So I use my feddit account just for here and my lemmy.world account for all the other crap I wanna follow across the fediverse lol.

Clients at work (same as most weeks to be honest) making stupid changes. I haven’t enjoyed work for a while now, and have been thinking of finding something new.

Ah that sucks. I was in that place a while ago. Would you change companies or careers?

Company I think as I do enjoy the work I do, it’s just made a lot more stressful with poor management and pain-in-the-arse clients. Ideally I’d like an in-house dev role, I’ve heard it’s a lot less stressful.

Sounds like you’re in a coding type role. Mate the market is very bouyant for our skills right now. I am starting a new job on Monday where my pay has gone up significantly over my last one.

I definitely advocate for moving somewhere else if you’re in a position to. We spend so much of our lives at work just to be able to exist and one day look back and think…wow I spent so long being stressed / unhappy. I know not everyone has the luxury of being able to leave a job if they aren’t happy - been there myself, but if you can, go for it.

Best thing I ever did was leave the job I was unhappy with. Took me 2-3 years to finally do it, but was totally worth it in the end. It can be hard to take the plunge.
