This has always been the case. This is what America has always been. I’m honestly shocked that so many people are shocked.
I read history. Not just modern history, but for the last several thousand years we’ve been doing this. As long as there’s been money or political power, there’s been people using it to game the system and get away with heinous acts against others, particularly rape and murder… we apes really love our rape and murder powered by money.
Because there’s always going to be some segment of any population who will do this and leverage trade and political capital to get away with whatever they want, there always needs to be regulations to protect us from ourselves. The problem is, too many of our dumbest people see that idea as unfair, because somewhere inside they want to be the ones who can get away with anything and think they might have a chance still.
