The prime minister says he’s not opposed to the idea of changing the lyrics of Canada’s national anthem, but said any rewrites will only come after consultation with Canadians.

But Trudeau did not commit to any specific lyrical changes on Saturday.

“I’m open to the changes that Canadians want to see,” he said.

On this particular issue, I think this is a reasonable stance to take. That said, my question is how you determine if Canadians want the change. A full referendum is obviously overkill. So what do you do? Opinion polling? Plebiscite? Consultation/research?

I doubt there’s that much appetite for it, after how rewriting the anthem went last time. Trudeau is being careful with this.
