      How did they “double down”?

      They didn’t denounce him or anything, and they gave a weak defense of “eh we sponsor all sorts of things”. But they don’t seem to have done anything to increase or strongly defend their (very indirect) support of DHH.

          Not clear. They still list Hyprland on their most recent donation blog update (with an annual sum rather than monthly) and they still have Rails World listed as well.

          None of that is something that I would call “doubling down”, which to me means escalation of their actions. I feel like they kinda put their heads down and ignored the problem mostly.

          But in any case I don’t know if that means they’re still paying him today or whether that’s carryover from previous payments or a contract they didn’t want to break for whatever reason.

          It’s also not clear to me whether “Rails World” is a one-man show or whether DHH just happens to be the founder. Is the money funneled right to him, does he benefit financially? I have no idea.

            Well, yikes. I didn’t know this about Framework and this is disappointing to me. I guess I can just save my cash before awaiting the next sponsorship report, though the latest one being from March this year isn’t encouraging :/ but man do I really love their ethos on open, repairable, and upgradable hardware…

              Same. I’d be a lot happier if they had said “sorry, we didn’t know, we’re pulling our sponsorship/attendance for projects where DHH is involved.”

            @Hawke @umbrella

            To clarify a couple points:

            1. They never really paid DHH, they bought a booth and advertising at Rails World which he started but receives no compensation from. This isn’t a donation, it’s paying for advertising at a conference

            2. They send premarket models out to various distros and WMs to give devs a chance to ensure compatibility before release - DHH runs the unfortunately popular Omarchy so this includes him

              1. Regarding Hyprland, they do actually as a community get a straight up donation just like KDE and a couple other WM/DEs do. However I would recommend a reinvestigation of the community, I disagree that the project founder ever came out as an avowed fascist, they’re more one of those cringe eye roll “shut up and code” types that refused a CoC, then added one like two weeks later lol. I’ve observed them banning transphobes on sight, though the discord has “edgy” humor 😒

                I also wish they would just not send shit to DHH or go to his conference, but at the same time, it wouldn’t be enough - people would demand they stop support of Hyprland next, then probably OpenBSD since it doesn’t have a CoC.

                For many I believe Framework is now simply ethically impure and there’s no actual path to redemption.
