So obviously from time to time you have to call some service (especially in australia where so many digital systems seem to break often, so you have to call customer service)

But how to deal with waiting on the phone?
The wait is sometimes up to 30 minutes, and it will play this horrendous music.
If I turn the volume down, I will forget I was calling or won’t notice quickly enough and the people will hang up before I can grab my phone.
If I keep the volume up, it’s so distracting that I can’t do anything else and I’m basically waiting for 30 minutes staring at my phone.

Anyone else that experiences this? How to deal with it?

99% my partner does this. I’m sorry, but can’t. I look up other ways: mail, web forms, whatever.

The rare case I suffer through it.

When I was living in Europe, I was basically using anything but phone. Usually email worked or support via the website. Now in Australia, the support via website/email is very often not functional, so I’m forced to call people.

Can’t say it’s an enjoyable experience, but I suppose it’s teaching me to try and do more via phone. I struggle a lot though.

Yeah it can be frustrating. I can’t remember the amount of times I had to call an utility company just because their bill was incorrect.

I suppose most people don’t really double check these things, but if my bill is randomly 50% more, then you can expect me to ask for rectification.
