Also available as dub, link in description
Killer movie of all time. That link is not available in the US unfortunately. But here’s a copy of the dub:
Fantastic film, but the dub is shite - much better in Japanese … and I say that as a non-purist, lol
Subs > Dubs. Always.
I don’t agree with that when it comes to Spirited Away or Princess Mononoke … I find the originals hard to listen to in comparison.
Each to their own, of course. I just think that the original version of a piece of work is always the true version, and I’d rather experience that (as closely as possible - obviously subs aren’t quite the original either) than some altered version.
Moreso with live action, admittedly, where with a dubbed version you are seeing one actor but hearing another, but when with animation, I want to hear it the way the director chose to present it.
I don’t think there’s anything wrong with preferring it the other way though 👍
I think that on rare occasions, something can be refined a bit, and the result is genuinely an improvement.
Off the top of my head, V for Vendetta the movie is better than the graphic novel. Aliens Director’s cut adds to the atmosphere. Some sympathetic remixes of dance tunes are harder bangers.
Completely agree that refinement can improve a thing - but to me those are still usually better as secondary experiences after trying the original. Interesting variations, having first experienced it as the creator intended.
Although I would exclude the director’s cut of Aliens, because probably should have been the original, but wasn’t released that way. That’s that’s my preferred version of the film too because it’s how Cameron wanted it, rather than, the studio.
And I’m not fanatical about it, or anything. It’s just a personal rule of thumb :-)
So, I would always go with subs over dubs, at least on first viewing.
I can understand your point of view :-)
The main thing is getting to enjoy art, one way or another!
Fully agreed 😁👍
I think it used to be a truism that the subs were better, but a lot of newer works have excellent English voice acting.
