Putting those silica gel packets in your tool box or whatever does nothing. Once they get to you, they’ve absorbed all they gonna absorb.

You can just bake them to reset them.

I suppose useful if you plan to trap them in a sealed, packaged environment, but not for just tossing about.

The reason they say not to eat them isn’t even because they are toxic. They’re not toxic, and the packet contains such small amounts it won’t do anything to you at all. But the pouch itself is a choking hazard.

      I don’t get it.

Why isn’t everything labeled “do not eat” then? Why just these packets?

Presumably because they’re often included in things you’re meant to consume. Someone who has never encountered them may think they’re part of the product. It’s obvious to all of us, because we’ve experienced them all our lives, but that won’t be true for everyone.

Such as instant noodle packs. There’s 1-3 similar packs with spices and sauce you’re supposed to open and pour on the noodles, but this pack is not meant to be eaten

They aren’t making them specifically for food. They make one type that anyone who needs it buys. It needs the message for when it’s used with food, but that doesn’t mean it’s only ever used with food.

They probably just cargo culted the text.
Most probably, the regulatory authorities did too.
