Sorry if this is a bit off topic. I want to learn more about what protective gear is recommended at a protest. The obvious threats I want to be less susceptible to are CS gas, rubber bullets to the face, and LRAD. So I want impact protection and no unfiltered airflow for my eyes (and ideally the rest of my face), filtration for my nose and mouth, and hopefully earplugs and earmuffs. Solutions I’ve thought of:
- half face respirator and some sort of goggles. Not bad but what goggles are both airtight and impact resistant?
- half face respirator and doubling up eye protection? May not be practical
- full face respirator. Chinesium is $30, 3M is around $110. Does that include impact protection? Not sure. They may get in the way of earmuffs, too
- Milsurp gas mask. Probably fits the bill, though may get in the way of earmuffs. Are they at all ergonomic compared to contractor/industrial stuff?
So yeah, lots of questions. Anyone know of any good resources discussing this?
The 3M 6800 full face has properly rated impact protection to the level of industrial goggles.
definitely not an LRAD expert, but I thought the audible sound was only a small portion of what it does and so ear protection may not be very useful.
What do you mean? I can’t remember hearing anything about effects besides sound. Are you thinking of those microwave emitters?

My understanding was that these produce subsonic noise that the body feels.

Military surplus M51 are the only protective masks that are rated for ballistics and chemical protection. They are explicitly designed for people fighting in a chemical attack, and remain attached-as-fuck to their face with a good seal, industrial ones are not. There is a reason why they are so expensive to an exclusionary price.
The industrial ones are simply N95 filters with shitty seals and aren’t rated to protect against chemical attacks such as CS gas.
I promise you, from personal experience, do not fuck around with CS gas, or think a cheap mask will protect you. That shit is a powerful irritant and does a good fucking job of it.
Either you go cheap and get stomped anyways or go prepared and return home safe. Your choice.

I bought the SGE 400/3 though because it has 3 position options.
You’ll have to research impact resistant, sealed goggles otherwise.
