  • I don’t believe that the state has the right to make examples out of people, unless those people took an oath to the state and used that power to abuse people. Then, the state is obligated to do it.

Example making is a confession of impotence. It’s a way of highlighting the fact that you have up until now failed to do what you are supposed to be doing and would like to draw attention to a specific incident where you actually follow through on your responsibilities.

To put it another way, I think you must make examples out of people who abuse power you give them because it’s your fault and theirs that this happened. So they have earned being made into an example and you are obligated to make one. You must confess your impotence if you are in power.

Anything less than that is cowardice and corruption.

If you have a problem with the way that police are treated in prison then you have a problem with the way that prisons let people get treated. Under no circumstances should a police officer get special treatment at any step along the way unless that’s to make it harsher and more punitive.

  • I totally appreciate the point, And I agree with you for what it’s worth.

Imagine if we stop giving aid to Israel just because they tortured and murdered a whole bunch of people? I mean at least that would make sense, right, since it was directed from the top levels of government through the entire official military.

Meanwhile we defund an aid organization because 12 people were suspected (through evidence gained by torture) of some wrongdoing at some point in the past.

The lack of standards for Israel is damning. If ever there was a country that we should have invaded well there it is.

  • I wish these articles would contain lists of officers and who the lead was who fucked it up so unbelievably badly that it cost their city 3.7 million.

These people should become unemployable pariahs. They should be humiliated by their peers and mocked openly by the public for being monstrous garbage human beings.

The other parents at the PTA meeting should whisper about them with rude looks and faces twisted with disgust. They should be asked not stay away from public activities out of respect for other people who they might make uncomfortable.

They should be treated like the selfish and reckless addicts that they are. We should be able to build a public list of police officers that unapologetically fuck up.
