Hyprland is kinda cool since you can still have windows over windows if you need/want it, I was worried since the width can be off and its easy to just open a window and scale iy manually to see text properly, it doesnt solve any problem I have tho, just forces me to use the keyboard more than I want to.
I definitely want to spend a sunday just customizing and tinkering with it tho, sounds fun.

Rnow plasma works super well for me, love that you can right click windows and have them always stay on top or always be below, useful when using the transparent terminal. Hyprland has a top popdown terminal (at least the config I used) which is kinda sick, but not really necessary lol.

For the touchpad? I basically use my laptop like a desktop with a mouse, pluggedin to power. (it was more for easy transportation from college to back home, didn’t have a desktop and gaming laptops get insane deals if you keep track, got mine $2,000 off at like $1100 and it was the best all amd alienware config at the time (still handles everything), just preemptively explaining because im used to redditors giving me shit for using a laptop as a desktop)

As long as its more secure than no password where anyone can accidentally tinker on my device, thats my main concern with no pass

I do like hyprland, I think itll take some time to get a config right but it feels fun to use and thats why I swapped to linux, windows felt boring with its ui and on top of that had constant random so it wasnt the good type of boring. Most shocking part has been having 100s of tabs open and swapping without issue, on windows it did not matter which browser I used my computer would tweak.

I often dont use my keyboard when casually browsing, reaching for it constantly is annoying in those cases, I’m assuming yall that use linux more are more used to the opposite and not using a graphical interface.

plasmas had no issues going half and half or quarters, better than windows at least, but yeah my monitors are relatively small compared to what other ppl have, so i never want to divide by more than 4

Its not like the alternative reddit is any better at least here someone could design a free app to do it, while reddit you gotta pay to access the api to delete all your posts/comments

Forsure, if i do run into issues I’ll switch to Bazzite. I always have windows to return to if I need to, still using it for some programs and im keeeping most files that cant be just be reinstalled when I need it on an external ssd.

My main issue with linux rnow is davinci, and houdini, davinci is easy to pirate, but no redgiant, etc. The effects I use can be remade following tuts or with other addons, symbol bitmapping, and pixeldither. But houdini specifically is just so expensive for hobby use, im addicted tho. I will never make money off that shit if I magically do ill spend 2.5k on the perpetual license. Cant find anyway to pirate an up to date version.

I thought piracy would be easier on linux but it seems to be much harder to find resources if they even exist. Nice for foss stuff tho.

tailscale works without issues on cachyos, i use it so i can ssh to my computer and have automation on my iphone to turn it on when using ssh apps like neoserver. (it drains battery if always on)

Like, if it was hard id get it, but it was easy af to set up? I prob spent more time tinkering with windows before my games would work lol. My gpu kept installing old drivers that couldnt update and I had tons of issues that I got used to. Relatively, cachyos has just worked with no issues, its crazy.

I dont understand what the setup issue is, I have everything I need running fine, going back and forth between hyprland (the 2nd most popular preconfiged version) and plasma. Windows is boring and I want better performance for rendering, arch (cahcyos) I seem to get great perfomance so far idling barely uses any resources and most obvious is I can open like 200 tabs without issue while any browser on windows lagged after 10.

Cachyos does have a gui for setup and its easy to use gparted from the install os or whatever the usb versions called. That was my only issue having to manually partition because auto didnt work, but i just followed the same steps, was pretty intuitve. Arch itself looks maybe annoying to setup, but through cachyos or endeavor it seems to be the move for perfomance and compatibility. Or Bazzite, I do want to be able to run games without tinkering and I ran some steam games off windows on my external ssd eithout issue.

Forget performance, im more worried about compatibility and having the right drivers, cachyos seems to take care of a lot of that grabbing programs, dependencies I wouldn’t think to grab being new to linux, seems to save me from a lot of researching, i could be wrong and the implication they are giving could be throwing me off, endeavor would be the alternative I go for. I dont like ubuntus proprietary format.

Ill look into endeavor, I don’t think performance is going to be an issue with any linux os since it idles using less resources and AMD seems to have better support consistently than amd. Whats your process in switching distros? Seems annoying to remember all the settings for customizing the de and all the apps ive downloaded, ive already forgotten. Do you just keep a list of whatevers important?
