I will probably get downvoted because Lemmy has a hate boner for Discord, but they don’t sell any user data.

What the fuck why did nobody try this sooner??
I’d say posting paywalled links is just as much allowing misinformation, as nobody can check what the article is saying unless they pay up.
So why not both? Post the article plus the archive link, everybody wins.
If you’re sharing news and want people to discuss, you should make it as accessible as possible.
Isn’t that the whole point of lemmy?
Statistics might be hard. But there’s studies https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/homophobes-might-be-hidden-homosexuals/

Next to these studies there’s also examples of staunch anti-queer people who later got caught being queer themselves, especially politicians.
I’m glad they finally added directly beaming them to your smartphone.
Well, directly is a stretch. But at least the direct WiFi method means I didn’t have to use a throwaway twitter account anymore to transfer my screenshots and video captures without removing the SD card.
Interesting website. They have a page about prayer too https://whywontgodhealamputees.com/superstition.htm
I dove straight in without looking and thought this was more of an ad than some independent writing. Then I realized it’s the official blog. Oops.
If you’re into video walkthroughs or tips when gaming I highly recommend the SponsorBlock add-on to get right into the important bits https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/sponsorblock/
Lol I was thinking of this one when I saw the thread title. Still, I don’t see a way to filter those out
$600 fine, wow. This guy should spend a few nights in jail instead.
Maybe fear was too big of a word, but people generally try to avoid being rejected by their peers. It might not mean anything online in the grand scheme of things, but social media has tapped into our psyche to keep us coming back for more positive interactions.
I actually don’t like the upvote / downvote system. It can manipulate users into posting comments that are generally thought to be more accepted for fear of getting downvoted otherwise.
I’m fine with it working under the hood and ranking comments based on the numbers, but the fact that everyone can see it all makes it more like an echo chamber.
Personally I only upvote comments that I really, really enjoy or replies that are on topic and constructive. Downvotes are for comments that are confidently incorrect, rude or nonsensical.
Anything in between I just don’t vote on it. At least theres no “karma” that’s linked with your profile on here. That would make it a game of chasing numbers like other sites.
It will take a while before we can shake off the redditisms, I think. But I’m with ya
When I click on the example I see 0 comments, but based on what you’re describing I think I’m glad
You forgot the “take my upvote and” part
Thank you for your detailed response, and I’m sorry you had to (and will have to) go through this. Feel free to send me a link to your writing if it’s publically available. Philosophically it’s a really interesting subject, but realistically it’s quite revealing of how we are failing as a society.
Your comparison to Neanderthals would surmise we drove them to extinction while morally or ethically speaking they were the better species. Are we the baddies?
With the Sync app you can still see the comment if you hit “reply”, as the reply view has a top box for reading the parent comment and making text selection and for some reason it retains the comment contents. Just an FYI
Can you link any research or study into this? It sounds interesting. I thought sentience meant being conscious of oneself, or self awareness
Still didn’t sell any data. And they completely removed OpenAI collaboration from the platform after experimenting with it.
