Yeah it’s more or less the same as current Reddit, just a smaller community. Bots and bad actors unfortunately exist in a way they simply didn’t 10-15 years ago.

I’d say less so. There wasn’t much by way of disinformation campaigns and bots back when Reddit first started so the posts and comments felt more genuine and organic. Even with Kbin/Lemmy being much smaller, there’s still a ton of weird shit that gets posted here or comments that feel really suspicious. It would be nice for that kind of environment to make its way back, but it seems those days are over.
This happened in April…
Paid for by the paper towel industry which was in response to the hand dryer industry putting out it’s own paid study about how paper towels just spread fecal matter around your hands. It’s all shit no matter how you spread it.
Taking concern for someone’s well being when it is quite clearly not in a good place has very little to do with the accusations being levied. I hope the right people are at least aware of that and are reaching out to her. I said in my reply the accusations need to be explored.
If you read that full thread it sounds like someone who was let go from a place I worked years ago and just rings of serious mental health concerns. Slicing open your leg so you go to the ER to avoid going to work is not a sign that someone is of sound mind. All accusations need to be taken seriously and explored regardless given their severity, but I also seriously hope she can get help.
It would be nice if they could package an annual booster with the flu shot, though I’m not sure of there are interaction issues. I got them both at the same time last year though and just had a mild cramp in my arm which is pretty typical for a flu shot on its own.
Eris fortunately doesn’t appear to be more virulent than omicron was, but also doesn’t seem to be weaking further as was the trend for the last few varients. It seems mutation with increased transmission over time seems to be the trend.
Just add it to the annual flu list and make your choice as to whether you want to get your shot every year or not. Not a big deal.
I think the distinction might be film versus series. Most movies are that bubbly CGI look but the streaming shows are mostly still 2D.
Why would this be a bad thing? Doubt it happens at any scale but this seems like a perfectly viable way to cool data centers compared to how energy intensive they are today.
I lurked for a bit until RIF died but haven’t been back since. Nearly 12 years of daily activity. Kbin has hasn’t quite done it for me yet but definitely getting better every day.
Arrest these people once they are uncovered and send a proper message to China that this shit will not be tolerated.
I’m with you. If we keep migrating to something else we’ll never actually settle to create a real community. I’m sticking with Mastadon. It’s grown into something pretty stable and decent at this point.
The Gulf Stream will probably collapse and be reshaped eventually. We’ve known that for quite some time now. Fortunately, this doesn’t seem to be suggesting anything new or any genuinely imminent threat.
And Bobby knew this shit like 20 years ago. It regularly gets into the low 100s in July and August in that region. It’s not so terribly bad since it’s dry heat, especially when there is wind. Arizona isn’t even the highest risk area. The biggest issue in the US wet-bulb temps in the southeast.
Lemmy/Kbin really don’t function in a way that make megathreads work though. This won’t work here and we can’t be thinking about trying to adopt Reddit behaviors in a platform that works very differently. Unlike Reddit, there isn’t a singular community around Technology. There are dozens that we can all see built across every instance. I had to scroll just to see I was looking at the Beehaw one.
I think he’s just been super into X for decades starting with some /r/Ithinkthisisdeep mathematics symbolism he placed on it way back when he co-founded X.com before it was bought by PayPal. He puts it into literally everything. I don’t think there’s much more to it than an edgelord trying to brand himself around a cool sounding letter with quasi “I am very smart” mathematical symbolism. Highly doubt the dudes a Nazi. It’s genuinely far dumber than that.
I get the humor in it but this is probably not a road worth going down. Trying to equate the physical letter X with a Swastika feels like folks are really stretching it to the breaking point. Plenty of other things to shit on Musk over than equating an X to some nefarious Nazi conspiracy. That’s like straight up right wing Pizzagate territory.
It’s not bad though. Zoom is great. Apparently their leadership sucks, but as a product its always done what I needed it to do without issue.
