    This is actually quite fun and simple! Even if the problem and my following explanation look complicated :P

    Let’s look at the three dimensional case. One can parametrize a 3 dimensional cube as the Cartesian product of intervals [0, 1] x [0, 1] x [0, 1]. This means a cube is a set of points (a, b, c) where a, b and c are real numbers between 0 and 1. The 2 dimensional sides of the cube are then given by fixing one coordinate. That is, the 6 sides are

    {0}    x [0, 1] x [0, 1],
    {1}    x [0, 1] x [0, 1],
    [0, 1] x {0}    x [0, 1],
    [0, 1] x {1}    x [0, 1],
    [0, 1] x [0, 1] x {0} and
    [0, 1] x [0, 1] x {1}.

    Now we just start in the middle of a side at (0, 0.5, 0.5). To get to the next side we walk towards an edge (0, 0, 0.5) and then to the middle of the next side (0.5, 0, 0.5). We iterate this process until we run out of sides with a fixed 0, then walk towards a side with a fixed 1 and continue there. That is:

       (0  , 0.5, 0.5)
    -> (0  , 0  , 0.5)
    -> (0.5, 0  , 0.5)
    -> (0.5, 0  , 0  )
    -> (0.5, 0.5, 0  )
    -> (1  , 0.5, 0  )
    -> (1  , 0.5, 0.5)
    -> (1  , 1  , 0.5)
    -> (0.5, 1  , 0.5)
    -> (0.5, 1  , 1  )
    -> (0.5, 0.5, 1  )

    This path basically spirals around the cube, going through every side only once. Here’s a visualization (sorry, I’m no artist :P) visualization of this path on a 3 dimensional cube

    The same procedure works on a 4 dimensional cube or any other higher dimension. For the 4 dimensional cube it goes like this:

       (0  , 0.5, 0.5, 0.5)
    -> (0  , 0  , 0.5, 0.5)
    -> (0.5, 0  , 0.5, 0.5)
    -> (0.5, 0  , 0  , 0.5)
    -> ...
    -> (0.5, 0.5, 0.5, 0  )
    -> (1  , 0.5, 0.5, 0  )
    -> (1  , 0.5, 0.5, 0.5)
    -> (1  , 1  , 0.5, 0.5)
    -> ...
    -> (0.5, 0.5, 0.5, 1  )

    This works for arbitrary dimension except for the 1 dimensional cube (which is just a line) because the “sides” there are the two end points of the line and not connected at all. Additionally note, that it is never specified how edges count in this problem, whether they somehow count towards a face or whether you’re allowed to go back and fourth on edges. You could technically only walk along edges and step into the sides every now and then.

  • I don’t quite see a point in this endeavor. Does the “Fediverse Anarchist Flotilla” as they call them, expect to be defederated by lemmy world? Are they trying to get defederated? The linked/crossposted post feels more like an overreaction and panicking to me.

    As for the accusations of lemmy world admins supporting genocide, I don’t quite see that. While I agree that an admin should not act entirely on their own and just defederate an instance without talking about it with other admins, a person who calls themselves “kill all [x]” does sound dangerous. Wishing murder to anyone is not quite conforming to lemmy world rules … or most social standards.

    It seems to me that this pact might just be a childish ploy to try and destroy the lemmy world instance. They just get a bunch of instances to join, then provoke a conflict with lemmy world, everyone defederates and lemmy world most likely will be fine while everyone else in the pact will isolate themselves further.

    But maybe I simply don’t know enough of the history of lemmy world mod actions. I do trust this instance and the decisions of the pawb social admin team. And I do not condone what Israel is doing in the middle east and I do think db0 is an important instance but I’d still be careful with unnecessary pacts. Someone wants to instill fear here, don’t let that influence you.

  • These posts keep cropping up every now and then, see this post from yesterday. One of the top comments explains why these posts are meaningless or even harmful.

    To reiterate:
    Germany issues travel advisories for almost any country to inform tourists what to pay attention to and what to be prepared for. For example warnings about bad water quality in ponds in some areas, possibilities of blizzards, forest fires in some areas, differences in driving laws and car rental laws, acceptance of currencies/payment methods, recommended vaccines for specific areas and of course what legal documents you need to enter.
    A few days ago the travel advisory for the US (see here) was updated, adding that you should be careful in Minneapolis because of the protests there and harsh reactions from the federal officers, and information about the current winter storm was added.
    The advisory also informs about strong border control measures such as officers being allowed to search through your phone/laptop but this was added almost a year ago.

    This travel advisory is useful and exists not only for the US but for almost all countries, including Canada, France, Japan, Israel, China, etc. What would be more important is if there had been a travel warning issued for traveling to the US, which is not the case (see here).

    The US may not be doing well but these travel advisories from Germany are no indicator of that.

    Saying Europe is a US vassal state is a bit much lol. Europe is one of the biggest economic powers in the world together with the US and China. They all export and import a lot of wares between each other and thus depend on each other. The tariff deal the EU got with the US wasn’t that great and the leader of the European commission, Ursula von der Leyen, got some backlash because of that but I guess her tactic was to just appease Trump so they will have more time to transition away from the US in some areas. On the other hand that deal reduced some very annoying tariffs on steel and car parts, so it was partially successful.
