  • Understood. I’ve only recently been learning how much Canadian mortgages force their lendees to “readjust” to new conditions. In the US you can generally keep the initial terms shy of a refinance or foreclosure

Can you provide any local insight as to whether you can find a decent house at a lower rate than that?

I know housing affordability is a shit show there and that lady isn’t making enough no matter what she does but I’m curious how much she could have lowered that percentage

  • Nobody can answer this question for you but I think to the countless examples of people not “getting out while they can” who are now–or were until their death–forever trapped in a bad situation that people today forget wasn’t that bad even within living memory

Is it right for you? I don’t know

Is it cowardly to let a sense of national loyalty compel you to be exposed to the mechanisms of government wielded by untrustworthy actors? No, and anybody saying otherwise is lying to you at best; lying to themselves at worst

Inb4 any what aboutisms: nothing I’ve said here is specific to any country

  • I looked into moving to other countries which made it very obvious which skills were worth cultivating, changed careers accordingly and moved somewhere (in the US) that isn’t fully car-dependent until I could accumulate decent savings/investments. This was pre-covid and “orange pilling”, I just kinda lucked out

And, no, none of this was easy, just easier than saying “I’ll accept this without a fight”
