I change my wallpaper like once a week but this is what I have on now

Kind of a typical response, but my android’s custom os. I think the OnePlus 8t is fantastic, BUT specifically thinking of the custom rom (Nameless13) I installed on it to replace OOS

I’m not that old, but I still came from flip phones and nokias, so the amount of evolution is incredible

I like this custom rom so much because as a tech savvy user, I can have it do whatever I want. It has an insane amount of QOL features, fantastic support team, better battery life, better responsiveness and energy usage, frequent and reliable updates, devs pushing out good features that users actually want, no bloatware ads or BS, a ridiculous amount of options and customization, and full control. The only single drawback was the stress and effort of learning how to install a custom rom, but it felt extremely rewarding and as someone in IT, it’s something good to learn. Plus having super nice and helpful support team and users both, made it way easier

Let’s say I xpost from !archive@lemmy.world - where should I xpost to? Should I not xpost back to c/gaming or would that actually be allowed? I’m just worried about the guides no longer being accessible by new users, that’s my main goal. Even if they might not be checked if they’re still accurate, if I used reddit, someone might comment like “thanks this helped” or “this was actually patched” and then I’d update the post

Maybe I’d just post in an archives community, update the original reddit post, and just call it a day. I’m probably overthinking this, I just want to be helpful

I thought that if I had written it, it would be valid given that I am actually trying to inform or discuss (whether they’re still accurate). I can see how it’s kind of a weird line, but then again I didn’t know what else to do as I explained in this post and it was only like 4 or 5 posts. I probably could’ve gotten away with it if I didn’t post them the same day, but maybe not

A gameguides community is a good idea, someone else mentioned that. I just don’t want to create that if I can’t commit to maintaining it :/

I’m considering throwing them into !archive@lemmyworld like someone suggested. Should I xpost into c/games or is that a bad idea? (due to 1. my first reposts being deleted then banned for 3d, and 2. the guides being not necessarily still accurate). I also might condense the 3 Control guides into 1 post, since I’d be linking them to google docs, there will be a lot more space to work with

I like the idea of a Game Guides community, but then that would overlap once the individual games have their own communities. Man I just wish everyone migrated off reddit, it would make this so much easier. I don’t want to have to moderate a Game Guides community though, because I can’t commit to that :( I’m considering throw it into !archive@lemmy.world like someone said

If new users (not from the original reddit post) try to find this information, will it be just as easy in c/archive compared to c/gaming?

I know right now, googling isn’t as easy as “Lemmy control collectibles guide” vs before “reddit control collectibles guide”

Edit: Looks like I can’t post yet in !archive@lemmy.world yet. In the sidebar, I still see it as a WIP. Hopefully it doesn’t take too long before it opens up. I don’t want to create my own gameguides community, because I can’t commit to moderating it properly

There was no reason given,or at least I don’t know where to look - there doesn’t seem to be like a reddit modmail thing. I had received a notification that someone replied and I went to reply back, but I kept getting errors, and that’s how I found out they were removed

Maybe I’m over thinking it and they thought it was spam. But idk how they can think that when they didn’t delete the Vindictus guide, and my profile clearly shows me as not a spammer

It feels nice and warm, that’s for sure :) I hope it stays this way but the content grows to where I can use this as my new source of information

Semi-related… You guys have any tips for seeing new popular posts? I have checked subscribed top week, subscribed top day, even month, and then even all for those 3. I feel like I only see new content every 3-5 days. Or is that just because we’re still growing and I’m just used to the overflow of content on reddit? lol

I completely agree. It makes sense that AI is not good at determining truth vs fiction. I think it’s more important for us as users to just search for information on our own, then determine the “end answer” with our own judgement after reviewing different sources and experiences (taking each individual answer with a grain of salt)

That’s why, I personally think AI search engine won’t be the best all-rounder for all types of information that’s not niche, deep searching which is IMO better found on forum-like platforms where people (enthusiasts) share sources, their experiences, what worked, what didn’t work, and why. For AI, maybe just simple bland information, like an excel formula, or how to hot wire a car, is better

Interesting, I think I agree with you on this. It could be better than traditional searching, but only if it is able to pull accurate organic content with sources. I think only then would it be more accurate and efficient than looking through forum-like platforms.

Discussions and comments are super important too so I guess it would have to pull sources that include that, which I guess could work? That’s super important for probably everything, because you might see comments that say "add 1/4 c flour instead of 1/3 and it was perfect" or "I used this and it caused a spark in my usb port, here's what I did and my setup, take caution" or "if you use a 3 monitor setup though, be careful using 2 hdmi and 1 dp, for these reasons, 3 dp is better for these reasons" or "if you want a more efficient way to farm this item, talk to this npc and do this quest instead" etc (I just made those up for examples) - but the point is that people comment on posts with tweaks, improvements, warnings, positive feedback, negative feedback, etc. That’s super valuable for making a final decision on your own about the problem, which is partially why I don’t think AI will ever be the most successful way to find information, because I don’t know if it can achieve this more efficiently than forum-like platforms

I completely understand and respect your opinion, but I just disagree on a personal level - and I think there is a very valid compromise to still achieve this, by redirection. It would obviously suck a lot for people who just want to find information, so they can still get it. Just take them away from reddit

Like most of us probably, I exclusively used reddit for finding information about literally anything. Google search algorithm is straight hot garbage it’s embarrassing lol

If we want other non-corporate owned thread-like platforms to be successful and for reddit to “not get away with this” I personally think this has to be done. Otherwise it’s just still a free database of information that we as the users provided for free, and reddit will continue to profit off of. It’s my personal stance on it, but I think it’s not right, and I believe the extreme majority of people either won’t or won’t know how to use reddit as a search engine without giving them profits

My solution is to rewrite all of my comments, but for anything that I provided a solution for (or guide), I will redirect them to the same information, but not on reddit. For example, I wrote a full blown returning player guide (like 18 pages) for the game Vindictus, so I’m moving it to google docs. I will inform the discord, in addition to linking the google doc on the reddit OP, and possibly also reference a Lemmy post, give insightful information, etc

Most of my comments though are just discussions though, not many fixes or solutions. So that’s what I’m planning on doing
