I used to work for a Japanese manufacturing company that had plants all over north America. A lot of the Japanese people sent over were here to train Americans or support them in some way. It wouldn’t surprise me if this person took the deal because that’s what they were already going to do.

We would frequently have Japanese engineers or executives on 2-week to multi-year assignments in US plants. Obviously they always had all the proper visas and whatnot. I have to imagine they are much more hesitant to send people over now.

Those costs are very relevant in war. If it’s cheaper to attack than to defend, then an attacker can just keep attacking until the defender is no longer able to defend.
If you value human life to the point that nothing but the best will do, you’d have tanks helping every child cross the street. Valuing human life means efficiently using resources to defend it.

Right after the Oct 7 Hamas attack, Israeli spokespeople were comparing the attack to 9/11. They were trying to make the comparison to drive support for their attacks on Gaza. But I couldn’t help but think that 9/11 got the US to enter a needless conflict killing a bunch of innocent people. They wanted to do the same thing.

I’m not holding my breath, but I wouldn’t be surprised if this one is different. A large part of his base comes from Q-anon. That whole conspiracy was about political elites running pedophile rings. “Epstein didn’t kill himself” is more unifying than any flag. His supporters that are just in it for the fascism won’t care. But the Q-anon conspiracists thought he was the one to take all that down.
When I lived in Japan, my apartment had a thermostat for the in-line water heater with controls by the bathroom and kitchen. I knew what temp I liked to shower and just used hot water.

Good job Spanish protesters and even politicians. This easily could have ended in the politicians blaming the protesters for cancelling an iconic event. Instead they amplified the protest by putting pressure on Israel.
