I’d like the name to be “community feed” and “feeds” for short. Reddit was always essentially a collective rss with voting weights. In this way “subs” would still work since one subscribes to the feeds.
Ultimately it’s something the devs need to encourage though
They are getting a huge propaganda push on every advertisment avenue. TV, Hulu,YouTube,TikTok. If you can pay for reach, you’re getting Israeli propaganda aimed towards Americans
Insurance companies will love the new discrimination machine, best not think about how it handles edge cases /s
This sort of AI use should be banned outside of a research context.
They’ll boil the frog slowly enough. Threads is huge compared to the fediverse, and will likely do piecemeal federation. Like sending account activity out but not sharing any fediverse voices, getting everyone here following and desensitized
I’m not super familiar with the right terminology, but in short I think users should be able to follow whoever they want, but restrictions on how it is interacted with is fair game. I think following and replying to threads accounts is sort of a must, even if boosting and other functions are disabled. Also on favor of preventing non-replies from being sent to threads.
The real issue issue is interop with Threads means surveillance of users. Limiting the info going from here to there is essential. However a read-only mode that lets us get some value out of it is fine
Just say it. Just call them savages you want exterminated.
You don’t care about death or suffering, you care about how “impure and backwards they are”. To be cleaned for “progress”
You’re building up to it, just speak plainly. You want to improve the land of Palestine by clearing out the savages. It’s the genocidal colonial logic you subscribe to. Let people know who you are.
Unverified fear-bait.
There’s no shortage on stories of cases where Israeli soldiers rape Palestinians --of any gender. In terms of murder, we know which side has the higher body count, so let’s not pretend we don’t.
I like the idea of having a few OP abilities, but having them require non-trivial preparation within an encounter. E.g. “charging” for several turns without moving or taking damage.
I agree, but it takes less than 10 min and is more impactful than lemmy posts
Mastodon: it’s harder to find your friends, but you get to keep them.
Same! 8.04 was a great introduction. Though I learned about wifi drivers the hard way back then…
" Hey you want the humane and equal treatment of all peoples, and I have an opposite opinion that some people should be subservient or eliminated. Woah woah why are you banning me."
It’s a painfully American sentiment that was prominent in the civil war. “Hey we just disagree on slavery…”
Fediverse really needs onboarding pages that hides some of the wires.
Join Lemmy for example should highlight the content and UI, and a big “Join the Lemmy Fediverse” button. Click the button and it asks 3 questions and send you directly to account creation for an active instance matching your answers.
Frankly instance choice should be something people think about after they’ve been involved for a while, at least until we have a few multi-million active user instances to choose from
Wait until Meta joins the microblogiverse gunning for those VIP accounts eager too leave Twitter.
AI and horribly exploited outsourced labor is basically Facebook’s MO
At this point any reddit protests need to sort focus on tarnishing the platforms reputation further. They’ve made it clear they won’t course correct.
Top of mind, spamming the subs with content that looks bad for them to remove. The ideal would be dirt on spez (e.g comments he made on /r/jailbait), but it could even be something more reserved like a charity link or “why I’m leaving” memes.
July 1 is a good excuse to get another news cycle out of this, and warn potential investors skeptical of the future of the company.
I agree 90%, downvotes shouldn’t have that much weight. That said, comments which are abusive or hateful probably should have long term consequences for the user, even if they are themselves not worthy of a ban. Maybe reputation can be a “strike” for number of reported comments.
To be clear, here I’m thinking of “dogwhistle” comments which individually are plausibly fine, but in aggregate indicate this person is up to no good.
I do wonder if it would be healthier for the fedditverse for instances to really narrow their magazine/community footprint. I.e. “This is an Anime instance” a “Science instance” etc. Making off-topic magazines could either be discouraged or outright banned.
Not looking forward to having dozens of “news” and “technology” magazines sharing the same stories,
It’s not that straightforward. Copyright is different in that infringement is only enforced by rightsholders through litigation. That means they hato find you, sue you, and make a convincing argument that your backup is harming their market viability.
On that last point, some personal backup is unlikely to be found to be infringing. It’s more problematic if it’s something shared or done in a significant scale.
