Hiding “/s” in a spoiler tag is a bit more satire friendly.
In some cases seeing it upfront gives away the fact that you’re not serious a little too quickly and doesn’t have the same “got ya” effect that some people want.
It’s not necessary by any means, but it can be fun to add that extra layer sometimes.
As far as what happens specifically on Lemmy, it looks something like this:
Hi! Yeah, probably a timing thing. I used a spoiler tag yesterday and a user mentioned that it didn’t work for them. Turns out it’s a known issue for Boost users, so that was fresh on my mind.
Some Lemmy applications don’t display it well (like Boost).
It works fine through a browser or Voyager.

What @delirious_owl@discuss.online seemed to be implying is that direct messages on Mastodon should be considered “public” rather than “private”.
I’m assuming that’s along the same lines of how Lemmy users generally think that their upvotes/downvotes are private when in reality, if you know how to look for them, you can see them.
Ah, I see. So it’s the same mistake that Lemmy users make when thinking that Upvotes/Downvotes aren’t public.

? Did you mean that the other way around? And if you did… forgive me, I don’t really use Mastodon. I was never much of a twitter fan. I don’t really like how all of my likes are public (although I guess I have had to get used to that with Lemmy).
Hmmm it was even able to pull in private DMs.
Maybe private DMs on Mastadon aren’t as private as everyone thinks… that, or the open nature of Activity Pub is leaking them somehow?

Yeah, I could never put my finger on why I didn’t like it before, but then I saw this video and everything made a lot more sense.
Although, with the recent AI boom I could see this process improving a lot (such as what DLSS is doing)… but I would still want an artist in the loop for movies/shows making it look just right, rather than my TV trying to guess how characters should move around between frames.

This sounds like what TOR users run into. Are you always clearing your browsing data/cookies in Firefox? A fairly blank slate there will raise some red flags in a lot of systems causing the captchas to be aggressive.
Otherwise, maybe you just ended up with a bad IP address that was previously being used for suspicious bot looking traffic?
I would definitely submit a ticket to Etsy about this issue, but this is likely an issue with captcha or whatever they’re using to detect “suspicious activity”.
Edit: I just tried logging in to Etsy and it gave me about 4 captchas for signing in with a “new device”.
Looks like google really needs help training their self driving cars.
It really depends on the subject.
If it’s programming/hardware in general then there’s not much debate.
But when it comes to discussing “buzz words” or other hot topic items (cryptocurrency or AI/ML Models) then there will be a lot more debates.

(On a serious note, upvotes and downvotes mean different things to different people. That’s just their own opinion and that’s okay. But if you are bothered by downvotes I would use a Lemmy instance that hides the downvotes entirely.)

It’s a minor thing but instead of sharing imgur links, post the image in Lemmy and share the URL to that.

Switching to a good VPN server, or turning off the VPN will let you browse Reddit again.
