  • Seconding Project 1999. I have played on and off (mostly off) since near the beginning. I wish I had more time to play it. It takes so long to make decent progress that it’s just not for me these days. I’ve thought about rolling a cleric so that I could maybe/hopefully get groups quickly and maybe then in 10 years I’ll be max level

  • Not familiar with the APS form factor, but is it possible to buy some of the canisters and bulk roll it yourself? You can buy large rolls of motion picture film for bulk rolling. Depending on the size of APS you may have to cut the film yourself. You will also very likely have to develop yourself as most labs won’t touch films with a remjet layer.

Edit: incase it wasn’t apparent you’d have to do this in a darkroom.

  • I can’t speak to the superconducting potions of this comment, but the general computing information is mostly correct.

Switching losses are a result of capacitance in the circuit. These capacitances aren’t going anywhere in transistors made from semiconductors. Additionally, even when a transistor is on it has some resistance, which of course creates heat whenever a current moves through that transistor. Leakage current also generates waste heat.

I could see room temperature super conductors being useful as replacements for bus lines in a digital circuit, but this wouldn’t eliminate the heat in the circuit. Most of the heat is created in the transistor junctions, so the effect would be very minimal if even noticeable.

  • Also, for those of us who live in cities and have street parking only, not having a reliable place to charge is kind of a deal breaker. I’d love a cheap reliable EV. I think it’s an absolute shame, and a missed opportunity that the new Prius wasn’t an EV, but even if it were I don’t think I could buy one without having somewhere to charge it.
