Never owned a bird account. Spent 17 years at Reddit.
Be excellent to each other. She/Her. GenX.
The movie, “Big Miracle”, seems to have been based on a real event known as “Operation Breakthrough”. There was a time where something like this would have the entire world holding it’s collective breath and doing all it can to save the animals. Today, hardly anyone knows it’s happening. 😢
Exactly. I think the bigger question here is whether hand-soap is sufficient to use as body wash? 🤔
I went thru many of his songs after discovering “The Search”. “When I grow up” is great … the subtle comedy in the kitchen scene is brilliant. He’s quite the lyrical genius!
I sent my kids nuts playing that soundtrack on rotation. lol.
ooo Måneskin’s latest stuff is incredible. Great choice! Love them!
Played Fortnite Festival and discovered “The Search” by NF. What a banger!
lol oh no … so what are they gonna give me for my 400 odd Fortnite Bricks, then? 💸
In Australia we just put the price up exponentially each year so that eventually noone will be able to afford them except the very richest in the country. I stopped smoking on 1/1/2020 when it was already over $1 per cigarette. It’s considerably more expensive now … I think about $30 for a pack of 20s. That’s why my friend never has any dosh and is always borrowing money from ppl.
We have this law in Australia and it never made sense to me. Noone is forcing these mega news corps (and Murdoch was a heavy pusher on these laws) to join Facebook and post their news there. Facebook et al drive traffic to the news sites, that otherwise would not have gone there. I think something could be said for preventing amp links, or some other option that ensures the viewer is directed to the true source for a story.
But this money doesn’t get divided up with smaller news creators either, so the MSM get even more money thrown their way, while smaller, better quality, media continues to struggle with YT demonitisation for covering topics MSM wont, and trying to finance their outlet thru Pateron. It’s a rort, not a true solution.
It’s a heat/cold powered cycle … once the temp regulates the same everywhere, there is no more cycle.
I was there 17 years. Can’t say I miss it, but I do lament it. The community there helped change my life in some very significant ways. But it became glaringly obvious that the administration have little to no appreciation or respect for their users. I’ve been enjoying watching them scramble to re-engage lost value in their IPO. I will only return to participate on r/place … whether that’s thru the void or a “Fuck u/spez” … they will get my traffic for that.
I have several hundred “Bricks” which is some cryptocurrency from r/FortniteBR … It’s stored in my “Vault” but I dunno how to use it or what I can buy with it. I dunno if I can sell it, but I remember them specifically referring to these Bricks as crypto when they came out, and they are earned by posting content and comments.
If you haven’t done so yet, I would recommend watching a documentary called “The Social Dilemma” if you are able to find a copy (it’s on Netflix).
I used to watch a lot of controversial/conspiracy/right-wing stuff because I wanted to keep tabs on their crazy. Eventually it all became way too toxic and bad for my mental health but I needed to fix my Youtube feed. There was lots of unsubscribing and channel blocking, but mostly watching of lots of trivial videos was what helped to clean it up.
I don’t think downvoting helps, but upvoting does. The algorithm knows people will engage more with content that makes them angry/afraid … don’t let it know when you feel that way.
Maybe scroll through a lot of shorts and then like and subscribe to videos & channels that are less innocuous, or completely trivial (like cooking tips, makeup & fashion for older women, celebrity gossip entertainment, comedy, feel good compilations etc). If you haven’t already, definitely subscribe to Daily Dose of Internet. Youtube also seems to like pushing Lo-fi, meditation, and binaural beats (especially at night) … sub a few of those.
Block those channels who have Rogan or Tate or similar in their video titles. Unsub from the likes of Dr John Campbell & Russell Brand. If she likes news and current affairs, try to find world news channels that are more highly regarded but less likely to be “ultra left” channels that she would recognise from her anti-browsing. Channels like Reuters, AFP, or maybe news stations from other countries (like ABC news in Australia, or CBC and Global News in Canada). Block “Rebel News” and unsub from “News Nation”, or anyone else that pushes clickbait headlines. Swap her subscription from “Sky News Australia” (block) to simply “Sky News” - The Australian one is made by NewsCorp (Murdoch) and targets the American right-wing audience, while the other is a legitimate UK news channel which is not owned by Murdoch - she wont notice the subtle difference in the logos, but the content will be dramatically different.
Also, I would recommend a channel called The Why Files … he does videos on conspiracies, lays out all the conspiracy evidence, and then also lays out any debunking facts. He treats the subjects seriously, so watchers don’t feel stupid for believing something, but then does a great job of presenting the debunking facts as well, so viewers get a really balanced presentation about controversial topics.
I hope this is helpful. Good luck.
P.S. If you haven’t done so yet, I would recommend watching a documentary called “The Social Dilemma” if you are able to find a copy (it’s on Netflix).
I thought the algorithm responds to downvotes with more of the same content because negativity drives engagement. I very rarely downvote because I don’t want YT to know what I don’t like. I do however tell it to completely block rage-bait channels. This works for my home feed but not in trending.
Personally I agree, but we all know what someone means when they say “posting on Lemmy” etc. I simply make it a point to refer to it as “the fediverse” in my own posts. Eventually people will catch onto the right terminology, especially as more software platform options become available for the Fediverse … like Threads (though those ppl will probably always call it Threads because that will be all they know and understand of it).
I think what you are looking for is kinda related to street epistemology.
It’s currently 2.9 stars on my Playstore. I’ve given it one star and a scathing review. Thanks for the heads-up. I hadn’t thought about changing my review when I uninstalled it a couple of weeks ago.
“Weathered steel” was all the rage on brand new buildings a few years ago, why not on a “truck”? 😏
