A bit afraid, it looks mostly good but I worry about power creep, the passive seems insanely strong, and the weapons seem at least good. I guess we’ll see ! I hope this isn’t a Democratic detonation 2 situation, where it becomes almost indispensible to have for any good loadouts (and I say this as an eruptor enjoyer)

Thank you for taking the time to express your thoughts more in depth, it makes a lot of sense, and I now think I was a bit too certain while writing my initial answer. Of course, different people care for different experiences, and that’s absolutely fine :)

It’s true that I took a bit of a shortcut in my previous statement, I shouldn’t have been so absolute.

And as a sidenote, I believe that I read somewhere that the intent of having sleep not activated by default in MP was also somewhat of a counter to not having timeskip, allowing players to “use” all of their available time (though as you said, you’re still just waiting so I’m not entirely convinced by the argument)

I couldn’t disagree more, I love the game and think it’s first and foremost a solo experience. I have around 500 hours in, and about 400 are exclusively solo, in various games since build 38. It’s in single player where the truth of the apocalypse hits you, the dread of being alone against the world knowing you will fail but not knowing how and when… Even the sleep mechanic is exclusive to single player and drastically changes how you can approach the game, sticking closer to the gritty realism themes. Multiplayer, even in really harsh settings, often ends up with a somewhat trivialised survival, and sort of a devaluation of defeat. Unless you want to play it hardcore and reset if anyone dies (which can be understandably upsetting to some), you’ll just respawn a character, get your stuff back, and you’ll only have lost some xp and time which your mates can help you power through, instead of a entire “life” you really cared about.

Don’t get me wrong, multiplayer can be heaps of fun, but I truly don’t think it’s the core of the game, and I’d really encourage you to try your hand at some solo play if you can be convinced :)

Perhaps a 1 user bump to their online user count, so really nothing of importance, like to other said, enjoy yourself with what you already payed for, and rub in that publisher’s face that they didn’t make anything good since ;)

Really good summary ! I’ve been a fan of MH since the very first game, only missing out on the wii and 3ds games, and my most played is MH Freedom Unite on the PSP with several thousand hours…

However today, I find myself more inclined to appreciate MH World as my go to, there is so much quality of life going on, while (in my humble opinion) avoiding too much casualisation like in Wilds. Perhaps it’s just aging and all, but I find myself less and less attracted to games not respecting players or their time, while of course acknowledging that this is only a matter of personal taste.

Anyways, play Monster Hunter ! Try several, and find out which one you vibe more with, there’s bound to be an MH experience tailored for your preferences out there :)

Yeah actually I can weigh in, I worked in a dairy farm for a summer, and besides I have a bachelor’s degree and a Masters in animal biology and ecology.

Dairy production is at best questionable, most often barbaric. Cows undergo forced impregnation as soon as they are of age, go through pregnancy (a stressful situation for most mammals), have their baby almost immediately taken away from them so that all their milk is available for farming, and are again impregnated as soon as production starts to dry up. The cycle goes on until the cow’s body can’t take it anymore, then it’s killed.

Some farms, especially smaller ones, are more humane, with the newborns able to stay with the mother, and a more delicate milking procedure, sometimes even keeping the older cows in the fields instead of sending them to the slaughter, but it’s VERY rare.

And to be precise, I am neither vegan nor even vegetarian, but I am definitely politically opiniated against the agricultural industry as a whole, and meat industry first and foremost

De synthèse vs origine naturelle est aussi un element polluant du débat (pun intended), en agro comme ailleurs.

De manière générale l’agriculture et les agriculteurs sont étouffés par le système au sens large, comme tu le résumes très bien d’ailleurs. C’est des points que j’ai pas trop abordés dans ma réponse initiale qui se voulait plus générale et moins fataliste, mais en réalité j’ai à titre personnel une vision excessivement pessimiste de l’avenir et de l’agriculture aussi, je pense vraiment qu’on est déjà parti trop loin et bloqué trop fort pour en sortir “juste” par des changements de politique (qui d’ailleurs ne sont même pas au programme, #Duplomb).

Et quand tu vois l’état des lobbys agricoles, des chambres d’agriculture, même de certains enseignants et enseignements, c’est juste horrible, on passe de propagandes à pseudosciences jusqu’à l’ésotérisme le plus complet sans que ça choque plus que ça le grand public. Je place ici l’exemple de la vidéo de Gmilgram sur les additifs “magiques” à béton qui a rapidement fait parler, mais des trucs comme ça c’est partout tout le temps tous les jours… Les gens choisissent des vins biodynamiques parce que ça fait plus bio que bio alors que c’est un lobby problématique de plus…

Bref, en somme on est d’accord sur le fond, je trouve juste (malheureusement) que l’ensemble de ce que tu évoques est souhaitable mais utopique au mieux

Et c’est pas un problème ! J’ai été prof de SVT, et il ne faut pas oublier que ne pas savoir est forcément la posture par défaut pour tout le monde. Ce qui est important, c’est comment on choisit de se positionner face à ça, et la valeur qu’on apporte à la curiosité du monde qui nous entoure :)

Parce que ça n’existe pas. Sans vouloir être pédant, la formule même de “produit chimique” est un non-sens qui pollue le débat citoyen sur tous les sujets, de l’écologie à la santé en passant par l’agro alimentaire. Tout est chimie, rien n’est “juste naturel” ou autre.

Pour la question de pourquoi on n’interdit pas toute forme d’intrant (a priori de synthèse) dans les cultures, elle est très complexe et comme souvent, multifactorielle.

Sans rentrer trop en détail, aujourd’hui la production agricole dans son immense majorité est simplement bloquée dans une logique de rendements à court termes. Changer vers une logique raisonnée voire bio est souhaitable mais souvent non soutenable pour les exploitants, qui peinent souvent à survivre de leur travail, et devraient supporter plusieurs années de rendements moindres sans la plus value apportée par les labels et certifications.

Par ailleurs d’un point de vue juste mathématique, si toutes les parcelles du monde changeaient du jour au lendemain vers une exploitation bio, les rendements seraient a priori insuffisants à nourrir la population (en tout cas pas sans larges ajustements autres de pratiques culturales et societales).

Enfin, à ne pas sous estimer, l’industrie agroalimentaire dans son ensemble est parmi les plus imposants et puissants lobbys qui soient, et dépense un argent et une énergie considérables pour s’assurer que les pratiques qui l’arrangent perdurent et se développe, indépendamment de leurs conséquences sur l’environnement et la santé.
