A truly shocking number of people don’t use any form of adblock. I doubt that driving off the adblock users will have a significant effect on viewership (and even if it does, why would Google care, it’s not like we’re making them money).

Legality and morality aren’t necessarily the same.

They probably prefer consumers running pirated Windows over consumers running Linux. As long as most people are more familiar/comfortable with using Windows than Linux, the more likely companies are to not even look at alternatives.

Diplomacy doesn’t work on Putin, or Russia in general. We’ve tried. We’ve tried for decades. We tried when they invaded Moldova. We tried when they cheated Tatarstan out of independence. We tried when they flattened Grozny. We tried when they invaded Georgia. We tried when they annexed Crimea.

The only thing that Russian leadership respects is strength, and they perceive anything else as a weakness to be exploited. Lemmy doesn’t have a left-wing bias as much as it has a far-left and authoritarian bias. Though this heavily depends on instance. Continental European instances tend to be far more moderate than Anglo-dominated instances, probably because at least parts of continental Europe have actual experience with real socialism.

They are attacking random civilian ships that are not headed to or from Israel. That’s not “sanctioning Israel”, that’s declaring war on the entire world.

I don’t disagree on a moral level, but I don’t think that “risk going to jail” is particularly good advice. If there’s any social programmes or charities, see if you qualify before resorting to desperate measures.

Human trafficking, illegal gambling, protection rackets, prostitution, etc. All of those are “markets” they are already involved in.

Directed energy weapons already exist today. They’re mostly experimental, but the US and Germany (and possibly others) are both investing millions into R&D and have working prototypes.

It also doesn’t allow you to actually exclude keywords. Which can be utterly infuriating if you’re looking for a specific entry in a franchise or a lesser used definition of something.

Sure, but the Fairphone 5 is €700 and, ease of repair aside, you can get a better phone for less than half the price. Repairability doesn’t mean much when buying a cheaper (and otherwise better) phone and fully replacing it ends up being, well, cheaper.

Or just straight up mine that crypto on someone else’s power bill. Much less obvious, so people may not even realise that their systems are compromised.
