Yep, currently industry needs to be cutting down a much emotion as possible, but DAC will probably still be needed in a couple decades, and research takes time so it’s still good that it is happening now.

As an outsider to a lot of such corporate things it sounds like they both suck a lot, just in different ways.
Yea from the article it’s pretty much just that it’s hard to go through the process of getting approved to get the loan and proving that it’s worthwhile to the government.
“One hang-up has been a requirement that companies get funding from private investors before the loans can go out. The program’s rigorous due-diligence process, higher interest rates and slowing growth in electric-car sales have made it harder to get deals done.”
It was initially a pwa, but now it is a full and proper app, even available on Google play now!
I believe it can still be used as a pwa though.
Depends how you do it, currently absolutely not because it uses coal coke usually for the heating and/or carbon infusion. To have it be carbon capture you would have to heat it with an arc furnace or something, completely powered by renewables (this is actually very hard to to because of the ridiculously high temperatures involved) and then find some way to use captured carbon to put into the mix, or potentially using very pure charcoal or something
According to the article the way they define green steel is using arc furnaces or hydrogen to heat the steel, idk how they do the carbon input tho.
Exactly. When discord updated their mobile UI everyone immediately hated it cuz different. There were legitimately some poor decisions made, but then they went and reverted like half of it after people had started to get used to it. For example, I got used to and liked where they moved dms to and they reverted it back, but kept having to tap on the name of a channel to view the users in it instead of just swiping left.
Edit: and I’m also now used to the bad things they kept.
Unfortunately, there is also almost certainly a secondary problem in that the parks and rescue services are underfunded to do such overhauls. Granted, some better off ones probably can and will but likely not all.
WE CAN DO BOTH!
The future of our energy generation is not a zero sum game, we can simultaneously build out and continuing developing solar, wind, mass storage, and other already proving things while also continuing development on SMR and building large nuclear reactors too. Sure, the nuclear options will take longer to bear fruit but we will likely still be needing more clean energy by the time they do, even with pumping out other renewables as fast as we can.
Well yeah, but the intention is to lessen the effects of the warming already happening and what will happen in the future no matter what we do. Nobody is pretending like we need to do this instead of cutting emissions, (except maybe oil execs I guess), we can do both at once.
The one downside of this and other geoengineering options is that once we start we can’t stop until CO2 levels drop back down so we don’t get a more sudden global temperature spike which would be worse for the environment most likely
Honestly I could maybe believe the 20 countries thing because it is highly dependent on what countries those 20 are and there’s a lot of tiny countries out there
I think they definitely dropped a kilo somewhere for the numbers they got tho
So I went and looked at the study they linked for that section, and it had the same number and said the same thing. Their citation for it was the EPA greenhouse gas equivalency calculator, but when I plugged the number into it gave me .072 coal plants for a year.
I’m guessing what happened is the study fucked it up somehow and the article blindly copied it.
I don’t think you could, we are currently around 1° C in increase since the pre-industrial period. Unless you mean that were already on an almost unavoidable path to 1.5c, which could be true.
Not the commenter but I’m using Voyager
Oh has he talked about Lemmy? I watch some of this stuff sometimes, haven’t seen that I don’t think tho. I’m mostly herr because I didn’t like what reddit was doing even though I used the official app the whole time
I doubt it, because the plastics would almost completely burn off, and while the concentration might increase I don’t think it would ever be enough to leave behind substantial residue for quite some time. Plus most of the time ashed are kept in urns or distributed in places that already will have microplastics and other carcinogens
Also wagon wheel on pixel 7
As far as I know there is no way to make it exactly the same as chrome, but honestly I think the ways you can do it in Firefox are better, here are some tips:
you can hover over the tabs and scroll to shift left and right, or click the little arros on either side. It will still always show you what each tab is, and still access all of them.
the tree-style-tabs extension, it’s fairly hard to get into the habit of using and is a big change (I’m still getting used to it myself), but it can make organizing giant tab messes easier. It can be used similarly to tab groups in chrome where you can minimize child tabs
There are some other tab management extensions out there too that you can look further into if you want as well. Hope this helps!
Some of their more prominent characteristics are high, soaring vocals, kinda constantly epic sounding, and pretty cheesy (which is a good thing)
I like them a lot
So like… Don’t build it out of ice then? Also it’s a book that may or may not be fully accurate, and should be taken as a thought experiment and story
There are plenty of valid concerns but that is not one of them lol
