I never really did this on the bad place but if you browse new and fire off something snarky or heartfelt first it often becomes the top comment in my experience
Lemmy really needs filter words for times like these.
I’d also like to argue that they can’t talk about Reddit itself over there any more because of the pervasive manipulation and censorship so we should make space for that conversation over here.
I think you are right about the normal users but I think they alienated a big percentage of top mods. I think the consequences of that are just starting to manifest.
If memory serves, it’s in reference to the ancient mammal and also the metal band
I prefer my porn to be 100% industry-exploited humans
All the Lemmy (and Kbin) servers (instances) can theoretically talk to each other. You can follow communities on other instances and comment and post like you are used to.
You could think of each server as an independent city-state, each with it’s own leaders, customs and citizens.
If two instances have a feud that can’t be resolved, they will “defederate” and then their users will no longer be able to contact each other.
There are Nazi instances here in the Fediverse (for example), but they get blocked on sight so you almost never see their garbage in the feeds.
Does that help?
Honest question, why isn’t your clubhouse over at lemmygrad enough?
Damn they really hate their users
So basically Reddit sucks at ads too 😂
Do you know something we don’t know? Are they secretly courting a private buyer instead of actually going for an IPO?
Not an advertiser but they generally know % of views (“impressions”) to clicks (called click through rate) and percentage of clicks that turn into sales (called conversion rate).
For that reason, I don’t think they’re trying to get rid of human users completely, just the “troublemakers”.
I think they want to lead the “silent majority” users into a bot advertorial content hellscape where they control all the levers of power and everything is for sale.
Also, infinite layers of meta commentary and criticism of the meta and criticism of that criticism… I’m home
I hear he doesn’t really think much of his father’s moderation policies and he might be looking for social media alternatives
The curse of the zombie hot posts strikes again!
I wasn’t sure how to respond to this at the time.
I’m coming back to report that I just saw this.
I was scrolling All + Hot using Connect on Android and saw this post: https://lemmy.ml/post/57957
Judging by the influx of new comments, I wasn’t the only one.
Lemmy’s default sort is “Active” - which I believe is “most recent comment activity”
The classic reddit experience is most like the “Hot” sort option.
Lemmy’s other weird default is the “feed” which can be all, local, and following. Lemmy defaults to “local”, which is probably not what you want (chronological feed of posts on your home server)
Also highly recommend “blocking” communities if you don’t want to see their content. (Mostly important if you browse the “All” or “local” feeds)
I’m imagining that as a Will and Grace gag and it’s pretty great
