Glad to hear this! I’m excited to see where Memmy is going! It was the app that got me hooked, after all.
I own a car and am resentful of the fact that they are pretty much mandatory in my country, but I don’t think this community is overly pessimistic or a vacuum chamber.
That said, departure announcements like the one we are talking about here look like attempts to stir up drama rather than attempts at an actual conversation.
What did you expect from a community called “fuck_cars”?
That would be nice if the instance wasn’t always overloaded. Ended up blocking the Piped link bot because of it.
Yes. It’s the reason I haven’t touched kbin in months. I have no reason to use kbin when Lemmy can see these posts and has an API.
Yes, even though a lot of my opinions are considered controversial here. On Reddit, unless you sort by newest posts, you’re going to get buried in the comments section.
Wow, what an update! Thank you! Admittedly, I haven’t used Mlem as my main, but this update might change that.
I think it needs more jpeg
Sure. It’s called the Cooperative Eye Hypothesis.
https://www.livescience.com/4299-eyes-alluring.html
Some researchers have called it into question fairly recently: https://phys.org/news/2021-06-cooperative-eye-hypothesis.html
I learned most of this in psychology classes years ago. There is also a Wikipedia article on the topic. I’m not an expert at all, but I find this stuff fascinating.
Facial expressions are a powerful form of communication. Faces (especially eyes) are so important to communication in the human brain that we see faces in places (pareidolia).
There is also a theory that we evolved to have the whites of our eyes visible so others can see where you’re looking and react appropriately (especially in the case of danger).
Thunder. I often get an error saying it’s unable to find the post to comment to. ReddPlanet doesn’t work anymore thanks to spez.
I like Thunder, since it is the most like ReddPlanet, the app I was using as my main when the APIcalypse happened, but I run into issues trying to reply to comments.
Every single time anyone brings up Biden’s problems, the response is downvotes and “Doesn’t matter because Trump exists.” And I’m sure you’ve heard the mantra of “Vote blue no matter who!”
And the rich have the rest of us bickering amongst ourselves about Team Red vs. Team Blue, and social media exacerbated this. News flash, if any of them actually cared, we wouldn’t be in this mess.
Team Red has their side blaming immigrants and liberals for everything, while Team Blue has their side convinced that everybody on Team Blue is infallible just because Team Red exists.
Chrome runs like garbage compared to Firefox, and this has always been the case for me. I didn’t make the switch in 2008. I also had a bad feeling that Chrome would become the new IE with every other browser ditching their own rendering engine and basing on Chromium.
People back then said it was OK because Chromium is ostensibly open-source. Look where that got us. Surprise, it’s still controlled by Google!
That song is spot on. They’ve successfully turned the people against each other to the point where anyone who criticizes the side they picked gets written off as a nazi.
Ooh, big text!
My point is, neither side actually gives a shit. I agree with most of what you’re saying about Republicans, but Democrats just do not give a shit either. They just play the blame game. Nothing will get done because all of these politicians are laughing their way to the bank while everybody else bickers.
First of all, not every conservative is a Trump supporter. Second, there are a number of loud liberals on TikTok who have said things like “cis people need to delete themselves.” It goes both ways.
And it’s definitely not helping that the biggest Mastodon instance for artists is pretending to be progressive while being hostile to the LGBT community. Mastodon has a chance to snatch up artists who are pissed off about Twitter, and of course they’re going to check out mastodon.art not knowing about their bullshit.
I’m not sure what the solution to that should be, however. Take down mastodon.art? I’ve been telling people to avoid that instance, but non-techie people don’t understand that the Mastodon developers don’t own it.
