It’s that… But it’s your voice. And you employ it to think. It’s how I argue with myself and reason my way through a thing. I’m not sure how I’d get along without it, except every once in a while I get stuck on a problem, so I do something different. Often, the right solution to the thing I wanted to do will pop into my head. Then I need to work backwards how I got there. Both are useful, I prefer the information up front though.

I use it for reasoning. It’s a way to talk to myself without having to do so out loud, which I do a lot.

There is a segment of the population who, apparently, don’t have one. Even deaf people apparently have an inner monologue of hand signs visualized. But this segment just lacks one entirely. I don’t understand how they think, how they come to a conclusion. Things just pop into my mind, when I take my mind away from other matters and let my subconscious bake on an item… is this the way they think about everything? I don’t know.

Self reflection is good. Learning from your mistakes is good. Regret is useless. It’s just agonizing over something unchangeable. It’s important not to confuse them, lest you end up dwelling on the past and missing the lessons.

Muscle pain relief is pain relief. I don’t go to a chiropractor and I’m confident most of them are selling snake oil but I kinda view them as a next level masseuse.

If I were more comfortable with strangers touching me a massage might be nice. A chiropractor sounds like a next level up. I feel relief when I get a good back crack.

Don’t eat within a few hours of going to bed. It’s likely you have light acid reflux and sleeping with a full stomach, particularly when it’s full of something so rich and acidic, will compound the problem significantly.

Also I’d recommend lowering the amount you’re eating. Eat just until you’re no longer hungry, not to the point that you’re full. If you want an extra slice later as a snack cold pizza is awesome, but you can’t un-eat the slice or slices that are punishing your guts.

Plex setup is literally just installing it on a machine. It took me an hour because I decided to move it to a different machine after I set it up.

It happens quickly.

People aren’t buying automatic weapons now. You have to jump through a LOT of hoops to acquire an automatic gun, they can cost as much as $40K, and have to be manufactured before 1986. But 50 years ago they absolutely were available. They were banned in 1986.

Most gun designs are 70 years old or so and they were as widely available then as they are now.

This is a topic that has centuries of history, dating back well before the existence of either Israel or Palestine as countries. You won’t find a single source that can actually get into the thousands of nuances involved. Don’t think there are only two sides, either. Read from everywhere, make up your own mind, but honestly you’ll never fully understand it.

A pocket knife and a small flashlight. You don’t realize how often you could use either until you have them.

My knife is an Opinel #8 (~$20) and my light is an Aurora A33 (~$20).

I carry a bag most of the time, so I’ve got a little extra room than most, but I’d probably still carry both if I didn’t. The pocket knife is the size of, well, a pocket knife and the flashlight is only the size of a sharpie.

If you ever have to resort to the knife resist the urge to push it against the toilet. If it cuts through suddenly the sharp impact from the blade could crack the porcelain.

The simple answer is really, no. Colloquially if you say “American” you’re talking about someone from the USA. We’ll further segregate ourselves into the States we’re from, which isn’t that different a distinction between “European” and “German”.

I’ve hired hundreds of people in technical positions, many of them the exact position you’re applying for. All have been in the United States. I’ve worried about a few things:

1. what they know (the knowledge test)

2. how they’re gonna interact with the rest of the people that work near them (the cultural fit)

3. how they smell (cultural fit 2.0, they pass but their close coworkers still won’t work together)

Obviously #3 in a remote age is irrelevant but you still have to be able to work with other people. If you do that and you’re competent then as long as what you wear to work doesn’t make people uncomfortable (ie: don’t wear a Speedo and that’s it) I don’t give a shit about your clothes. I’m not hiring you for your fashion sense.
