Don’t feel pressured to go back to those cesspools. Many managers (not me, but it feels like most others) like to look at a LinkedIn profile, but it’s probably not a very big deal since you won’t have any Canadian connections yet.
Libraries are a great resource like phanto mentioned, and would be a good place to ask for help with resumes as well.
