You made me realize that we always think of infinity as an immensely large number, but it can be an immensely small number (0.0(infinite)1).
We imagine the vastness of space and forget that people are studying what makes up quarks.
So thanks for making me realize infinity stretches in both the inifinitely large and the infinitely small. Wasn’t expecting to get a ride on the total perspective vortex from showerthoughts today.

I’ve been alone with my thoughts. Ultimately it leads to depression but sometimes I get some good masturbating along the way.
Lookin’ for a lover Who won’t blow my cover She’s so hard to find.
Are you implying the woman in Winslow AZ is a beard? Or MtF? Or perhaps this is a sudden realization of a preference for female anatomy with male social behaviors?
40% renewables for electricity.
Not to make perfect be the enemy of good, or to poo-poo that progress…but electricity is only 1/3 of GHG. And demand for electricity goes up with the move towards EVs, so while we take the energy out of the “transportation” column, we put it into the “electricity” column, at a 60% discount.
Thats…good. It’s progress. But it’s honestly such a baby-step in the grand scheme. We should be using green energy and EVs exclusively by now, and significantly cut down on meat and dairy consumption. We should be a lot further by now.
I blame Nader, the hanging chads, and Bush v. Gore…but mostly Nader. Had he not run in 2000, the majority of his voters, particularly in FL, would’ve voted for Gore. Nader got 97,488 votes in FL. Bush won by five hundred and thirty seven votes. That…the spoiler effect that resulted from an idealist candidate (and the shortfalls of FPTP, not to mention electoral college), is making perfect the enemy of good.
The same could also have been said of NH, by the way. 22,198 votes for Nader, Bush won by a margin of a third of that. Either FLs 25 or NHs 4 EC votes would’ve flipped the election and the course of history.
How do you feel about creators plugging their own product…for example, when Mark Rober (YouTube celebrity, engineer) plugs Crunchlabs (his subscription/box service for STEM kits for kids)?
Or when people plug their Patreons?
IME the more focussed/narrow/niche the subject is, the longer the channel will remain quality.
More importantly I think is if the channel owner is someone who truly enjoys their content, or someone who’s just enjoying celebrity and found a way to do it.
This is like Green brothers vs Fein Brothers.
8 bit guy, Nostalgia Nerd, Modern Vintage Gamers…great channels by people who are passionate about their content, still giving out great videos year after year.
AVGN? Ass. Shit. Ass covered in diarrhea shit. He made his fame off being an edgelord and that only works so long. Still check in every now and then but when he had guest appearances by Gilbert Gottfried and Macaulay Cullen he really jumped the shark.
The true mind can weather all the lies and illusions without being lost. The true heart can tough the poison of hatred without being harmed. Since beginningless time, darkness thrives in the void, but always yields to purifying light.
In the era before the Avatar, we bent not the elements, but the truth within ourselves. To bend another’s truth, your own spirit must be unbendable, or you will be corrupted and destroyed.
He faps himself to sleep thinking of the black kid he arrested.
Back in like the mid/late-90s, there was a horribly compressed .wav going around the internet of what was supposedly a heavily accented Linus Torvalds saying “Helo my name is Linus Torcalds and I pronounce “Linux” as “Linux”, that’s “Linux”.
I know, because I’ve listened to that .wav a million times. And I still think he said “LEE^^uh -nux”.
Gameboy Pocket. Gameboy Camera. Gameboy Printer.
Both the perfect balance of “nostalgia” and “ridiculous”.
Weird that we never consider that for retail workers though…
My god it’s a tongue twister for my internal monologue.
Yep. Really miss Apollo. Wefwef is a good replacement but nowhere near as polished. Haven’t looked at new apps in a while though.
I’m getting my doomscrolling and worthless banter/arguing with strangers “fix” from lemmy.
But Lemmy is no replacement for local news/rumormill, or most career/hobby subs, yet. Except for at a very high level. Like metro area, or “gaming”. Reddit is still far superior only because theres already a community there.
Eventually Lemmy may get to that point. Time will tell. I still haven’t installed the Reddit app, and I basically only end up there when some other search brings me to Reddit. I’ve already stopped muscle-memory impulsively typing it. My autocomplete for www.red
is no longer safe-for-work.
There’s other factors than just brushing your teeth but brushing is probably the easiest factor that most people can reasonably take control of.
Genetics, obviously you can’t do much about. But you can avoid sweets and decide not to get pregnant (hormonal changes during pregnancy can cause mouths to get more acidic and make plaque harder to remove, and can also soften the gums and bones that hold teeth in, or even weaken the teeth directly). Also, if you want nice teeth, it’s especially important to abstain from smoking crystal meth. And that’s even more important during pregnancy.
But telling everybody “brush twice a day for two minutes” is a small ask with huge returns.
Guidance for preschools around me is for them to brush kids teeth after every meal that’s served at school.
That was recently reinstated after being suspended for a couple years and the teachers are practically (as much as they legally can) begging the parents to sign the waivers to opt their kids out of it. I don’t blame them. It seems excessive and it’d take a ton of time for two teachers to scrub a dozen or so sets of toddler teeth, while also controlling said toddlers while they wait for everyone to finish.
At a certain scale that becomes impractical and you have to use CDNs and cloud compute, or you’re big enough to build your own.
People die in work related incidents all the time. The only thing different about deaths from NASA incidents is that they are (usually) spectacular incidents (like massive explosions or cabin fires…not good things, just stunning) and high-profile.
SpaceX does well because they basically ignore Elon.
