Edit: Plus is it possible to get banking apps and Google Wallet to still work (easily) in these Android-based alternatives?

Edit: Also conspecifics are members of the same species, while congenerics are members of the same genus. Another relevant search term.

qualia@lemmy.worldto birding@lemmy.world•A blue jay and a green jay mated, researchers say. Their offspring is a scientific marvel | CNNEnglish9·7 days agoThere’s also some anthropocentric assumptions in that article. It refers to the two species’ mating as a mistake multiple times. But horizontal gene transfer, while resulting in higher mortalities of offspring, also has the potential to combine unique evolutionary solutions from different lineages into a single species. Just because it’s atypical doesn’t mean it’s a mistake.

Sources: HIV.gov, USPSTF.
Any disease that specializes in inserting itself into the host genome and then eradicating their immune system needs to be wiped out.
It’s total soup weather too. I love me some homemade soups like Galician garbanzo and anything tomato-based with big chunks of previously stir-fried veggies. 😋

This drug came out three months ago in the US, is a version of PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) that only needs to be taken every six months, and is free with most insurances if you’re in an at-risk demo.

qualia@lemmy.worldto Uplifting News@lemmy.world•'We can end HIV': Groundbreaking preventative drug to be rolled out for $40 a year from 2027English8·9 days agoFree with many insurances though! It may take a little longer to get a “Prior Authorization,” but as long as you say you’re in an at-risk group for HIV (Google these) it will eventually get approved.
The rationale is that since treating HIV+/AIDS is so astronomically more expensive than merely paying for this once every 6 months PrEP, that insurance actuaries determine the latter to be way more in the insurance company’s interest.
This is good since it doesn’t require the insurance companies to be ethical, just cheap. But a win-win is still a win-win, so I say take it where you can get em. {Former pharmacist here, feel free to reach out and ask how to get non-addictive drugs covered} 🪿
Same. Now I’m an unemployed Mr Doctor who’s trying to begin to learn how to impose self-structure. Want to go back to school but another BS (or a first Master’s) is hard to get funded and a PhD requires solo research to even have a competitive application.
Maybe our group should at least be teaching the next batch of gifteds and adding in our lived shortcomings to the lessons. 🤷
