Did I say King’s writing was satire? I said Jonathan Swift’s short story was satire.
As for King being in the Epstein files, do you have a source for this? I can’t seem to find it.

The discussion around Soma always annoys me because people tend to get really worked up and take its premise as fact, like this must be the way it would really work and there’s no other possible way for things to go.
Like, for example, what would it be like if they maintained a perfect shared stream of consciousness between the original and the new body with the new body also having a copy of your memories up to that point?
They do show the main character being able to inhabit another body like his at the same time, but never really expand on it iirc
Would you lose your sense of “self” and experience something like phantom limb but it’s an entire body? What would “you” experience if the original body died during this hypothetical experiment? Who knows. ¯\(ツ)/¯
Jonathan Swift must have really wanted to cannibalize poor children!
I’ll never forget bringing that up in a classroom and realizing adults had no idea it was satire.

I strongly believe some countries feel the need to support Israel through their worst decisions simply because they (Israel) have nukes. It would most likely be preferable to have a friendly nuclear power rather than an unfriendly rogue one, even if they’re frequently uncooperative.

The idea that refraining from masturbating builds up some kind of internal energy is pretty popular in the incel community, a kind of modern take on conservative daoist sexual energy beliefs. Once you start really looking into it, this stuff feeds directly into the manosphere since they talk all the time about it. It’s also not really a new thing, just reworked to be algorithm friendly.

it’s not irresistible and the people who do dumb stuff just haven’t learned restraint.
Just want to point out Compulsive Sexual Behavior Disorder (CBSD) is somewhat recognized depending on who you ask. The topic of sex addiction is a bit controversial and I believe usually gets lumped in with gambling addiction. This doesn’t really invalidate what you said, just tries to add some context around why people might be driven to self-destructive actions like that.

Redacted or recanted? One of these is definitely preferable to the other in this context.
I miss the old images of the batshit crazy homemade Beowulf clusters people used to throw together that looked like something straight out of Serial Experiments Lain.
Coincidentally, it’s also about to be 18 in age

What’s crazy is how inconsistent the problems seem to be. I’ve got a 4080 Super and a decent processor, and I’m getting 120-140fps with most settings as high as they can go with frame gen on at 1440p. Only crashed once in about 40 hours of gameplay.
Usually if you’re learning Arabic for religious reasons, it’s going to be Modern Standard Arabic or MSA.
Good point. What if the word was mother or father instead of mom and dad? There are definitely more generalized uses of that, like fatherland or mother nature.

Must have missed when he gave it to Rush Limbaugh, may he rest in piss.
Do you also feel uncomfortable when people use the words adopt and foster when it comes to pets? They’re also child-related words but I feel like those aren’t as controversial to people.
It’s a little bit different in Korea. You notice it even more if you watch newer K-dramas. They’ve (mistakenly? Unintentionally?) started calling what you’d normally consider a latte an americano. It’s become extremely trendy at cafes to offer americanos that are definitely not just espresso and water.

The implication is that I don’t have to worry about any of it because I just don’t drive in DC. Public transportation in DC is perfectly fine when there’s at least one functioning escalator.

I don’t wear a seatbelt when I’m in DC and I’ve never been carjacked once…I just walk, take the metro and ride an occasional bus to get around.

It certainly does its job effectively, but I would be cautious with it considering it might be pretty bad for the gut or at least exacerbate stuff like IBD: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38892712/
2 darkly amusing related articles you can find from that one: the first one can be summarized as asking the question “how has no one looked into the safety of this yet?” And the second one years later asking “how has there still not been anyone looking into the safety of this yet?”
I like to go back every now and then and play through some of the more creative WADs people made over time. It blows my mind there’s even a working copy of Chex Quest with added content out there.
