I skip the app and use one of Safeway’s “Please Don’t Rape Me” cards that I found in the parking lot.

True. And the nepo-babies that lead these corporations are making millions off dollars each year simply by showing up to work.
Switching over to electric vehicles is inevitable. But who’s going to do that work and take that risk? What if they screw up? Ain’t no nepo-baby gonna screw up that cash cow. They’re going to continue showing up to work every day, sucking up the income and when the end of gasoline happens, they’ll throw up their hands and say, “No one could have seen that coming.”
(To be fair, it’s not just management. There are tons of people at every level who don’t want to risk losing their job with an uncertain outcome over just showing up to work every day and doing the same job they already know. But it’s the “leadership’s” job to do that anyway for the long-term health of the company.)
But not at the software companies that require monthly subscriptions, right? They get money every month, so they have lots of incentive to fix all the bugs. Right? … Right? /s
Talking about energy wastage, next time you’re walking around commercial buildings, pay attention to how many lights are on during the middle of the day.
Drove by a closed car lot the other day. The place has been abandoned for months. Weeds growing up everywhere. The entire lot is fenced off getting ready for demolition.
The only building on the lot is small and completely surrounded by glass walls, so you can see right through it. The red neon around the outside of the building is still on 24 hours.
I’ll try that.
Been using a Matias Ergo Pro for several years now. Love the chonky CTRL, OPTION, CMD and Spacebar keys.
Before purchase, I read reviews that some of the keys would tend to stick. Indeed, after a few months, the ‘F’ key decided that it was going to work according to its own plan. So the reviews were right. A good keyboard if they would just fix their d*mn key issues.
Working on building a new custom keyboard to replace it.
True. I’m gonna go out on a limb and add another reason: Money in politics.
When I was a kid, if a politician was accused of taking bribes, they would fall over themselves to deny the accusation.
Later, the politician would simply reply, “It was pay for access, not a bribe.”
Now, they don’t even respond to such accusations. Bribes are so normalized that we don’t even notice them anymore.
(For the pendants, yes there are pols that are occasionally punished for literally accepting bribes, some recently. My point is that there is little difference between literally accepting money and storing it in a freezer and having several billionaires fund your re-election campaign with dozens of legal loopholes.)
This allows The Rich to have a very heavy hand on the tiller for which way elections go. If rich folks weren’t pouring big money into elections (corporations are people too!) I’m willing to bet at least one political party in the US would be dead now.
What’s to keep Equity firms from buying those 2 million homes? Won’t that just leave us back where we are now?
Do we think we can build more homes than Equity firms can spend other people’s money on?
Back in the day there were stores that could definitely answer such questions. The employees were trained to be able to tell you which aisle (side and end) you could find their products.
Not anymore. Guess the training got cut so the CEO could get his quarterly bonus for being a genius. /s
Elon Musk said the company’s jump into humanoid robots could lift its market cap by almost 50-fold.
Shit My Dad Elon Musk Says
Yeah, for a short time there the word ‘java’ was very ‘in’. Marketing hipsters at the time wanted to use it in everything, just like the word ‘AI’ now.
Love this feature. Wish they did this on more cars. Hot, sunny days that heat tue cabin are perfect for driving the solar-powered fan that helps cool the cabin.
I doubt Tesla is as good of craftsmanship as what Apple typically does
If you want to maintain that feeling, don’t ever buy Beats headphones. I’ve had a few and their build quality is worse than Teslas.
So Apple has bought at least one crummy brand and not corrected build issues.
I agree. I’m not missing the point that Republicans are the cause of this.
I’m (attempting) to point out that Trump is not the cause of our problems. He is the Republican party manifest and when he disappears, his creators will still be here… working on creating Trump II.
Look, I hate Trump.
But I do think he is a symptom of a larger problem. There’s a bit portion of America – Blue and Red – that aren’t being served well by American politics. We have a huge homeless problem, millions can’t find good jobs, millions can’t afford to rent – let alone buy – homes. Higher education costs are through the roof. Health care costs are through the roof. (I guess I should move away from using the expression “through the roof” when discussing how many people are homeless, but I digress.)
We’ve got big problems and it doesn’t matter whether you’re Blue or Red or who you blame – those problems aren’t being addressed in a meaningful way.
Trump could disappear tomorrow (Are you listening, God? It’s America) and we’re still going to have a big portion of our country out of work, out of home and out of health with a bleak future to look forward to.
Desperate people turn to extremism and religion. I’m not excusing that behavior, I’m just pointing out that it doesn’t come from nowhere.
People that are happy, secure, treated justly/equally/fairly, have good incomes, can educate their kids, afford healthcare and can retire safely will not try to overthrow their government because there will be no one willing to listen to them.
Don’t know about where this restaurant is, but in my corner of the world, restaurants are hurting. They’re happy to get any paying customers they can. Write back in 2 years and see if this place is still open and still uses this Facebook-headline marketing strategy.
Well, Trump has already advertised beans from the Oval Office, so he has the experience.

Got a message saying I was banned from a sub I wasn’t even subscribed to and hadn’t posted to. I replied to the message telling them to get stuffed. They reported me and got me banned from Reddit for 3 days.
So instead, I banned Reddit and haven’t looked back. F-'em.
