I just checked the BBC news website. The sub wreckage has been found. They are confirmed deceased.

Yours wouldn’t. The low profile, low weight ones do.
And once people try it they usually like it!
In the forward direction I do sometimes get a false positive, but only enough to sound the (not very intrusive) alarm. The only time it’s actually stopped is when I was pulling out of a parking lot and the brakes applied. I never saw what it was in front of the car but another car honked, and a few people gasped so there was something. (2021 Toyota Sienta. Standard, boring family car)
Also I’ve actually been spared being hit as a pedestrian by auto stop on a Honda Freed.
My car’s reverse stop has saved me from a couple of dents.
My car stops if it senses it’s going to hit something in reverse (forward too of course but that’s not relevant for this thread)
In Japan the gesture for “come here” looks like the gesture for “go away” everywhere else.
Today I learned that Reader’s Digest is still an ongoing entity.
I bought a leather belt in Prague as a nice souvenir. Stil wearing it almost daily over 20 years later. I replaced the stitching but the leather is still rock solid.
I live in a city with excellent public transport and use it a lot, but a car is total freedom. You can go exactly where you want, and stop anywhere on the way. Even with great public transport you can’t beat it.
We have our Aircon cleaned around March or April because when everyone turns them on and realises how badly they smell in July all the cleaning services are busy.
YMMV But another fun AirCon fact*.
A few years ago we switched from running the air con hard at 20°C or so when we got home, having it turn off automatically late at night, running it hard in the morning and turning it off when we went out…
To…
setting it at a supposedly “high” setting of 27°C and leaving it on 24/7 (July to September)
The running cost was the same and it was very comfortable coming home to an already cool dry environment. We never felt the need to lower the temperature either. It was lovely.
*“fact”. I’m sure the condition of your home insulation, outside temperature and conditions, draftiness of windows and doors etc all play a role.
