  • Coops already exist. Basically they’re already set up so that when people move in, they own part of it, and when they move out, they don’t. The technical legal details of it varies from your country, region, municipality, etc, but from my basic understanding, when you sign your contract, it includes saying “you own this building with us until you move out. We might ask you to move out if you poop in the communal garden.”

Edit: re-reading your post, I realize I’m not sure if you mean the entire building or a single unit, but either way you can have similar arrangements.

  • When I challenge my established concepts with new ideas or angles, and realize my previously held truth doesn’t hold up to scrutiny, or is reinforced or expanded upon. For example, “is a hot dog a sandwich?” makes me reconsider how so much depends on context, and how we as humans crave labelling and categorizing to the point of it being detrimental (see biological sex vs gender, Star Trek edit wars, classical music and pornography cataloguing, etc)

  • The science is pretty clear; gun control works. Every time you repeal gun control laws, loosen restrictions, open gun stores, gun-related deaths escalate, often dramatically. States with higher gun ownership rates have higher rates of homicides caused by guns. Even a 1% reduction in gun related deaths would be the equivalent of 2,500 people per year. Kids die more often from gun-related deaths than car-related deaths.

Mass shootings also barely make up 1% of gun-related deaths, so the science behind them isn’t as well studied, but things like reducing magazine sizes shows a correlated relation in reduction of mass shootings.

Maybe just my personal opinion, but I saw the meme geared more towards the slaughterhouses themselves rather than the consumer individually. On the subject of slaughterhouses, the meme is a lot truer.

Slaughterhouses have a VERY high rate of problems, both in their practices and amongst employees. While I would describe employees as victims of circumstances in many cases (for example, they’re more likely to suffer an injury on the job than the average worker, or have high rates of alcoholism and drug addiction,) they also have a high rate of engaging in a lot of abuse towards the animals they’re killing, or in domestic violence at home. It’s often seen as a consequence of the emotional toll of the brutal conditions animals are in slaughterhouses. Most of these places completely ignore animal welfare laws.

Here is the wiki article on slaughterhouses, I know a lot of people poo-poo wiki since anyone can edit, but if you have any sources or evidence that is contrary to what I said, I’d be very interested in reading it, since I haven’t really encountered any.

Again, maybe it’s just me that sees something different than everyone else, as I never think of the individual consumer as being malicious - I really saw this as about being those that are actually in the factory farming business (whether as an employee or as a CEO.)
