I’d ask to switch with you, except I know very well that anyone’s life can be much more complicated than it seems on the surface, and happiness does not automatically come from any of that. Therapy doesn’t help everyone be happier, but it’s something worth trying or trying again.
The world does suck right now. All the more reason to find something like a cat or some other thing that makes you happy to help ignore all the bullshit.
Your cat had a good life and loved you and then died. There doesn’t have to be a point, there’s more good than suffering.
There’s more bad content on reddit than good. Downvotes are the expected consequence of that.
Reddit and Twitter are full of docile idiots who will put up with any enshittification of their status quo. But that’s not something Lemmy can change or is responsible for. Early adopters have left to look for new services, the passive will stay where they are.
“This seems like the right move to me. If you drink alcohol, you know that you’ll be impaired driving and should be held accountable. When you smoke pot, you don’t expect that you’ll stab yourself in the neck. She truly seems to be a victim just as much as the guy, even if his outcome was ultimately worse.”
Even for the internet, this is stupid.

I have a bookmarklet that I use on youtube to send the url to a flask app I wrote that runs it through yt-dlp and saves it to my plex server.
The Saturday Night Live channel has over 6000 videos. I downloaded its metadata and loaded it into a database and wrote another simple web app to browse it quickly and choose the videos I want to download. I have a plex library for SNL alone with about 700 sketches. I should generalize this for other channels but it was mostly a one time thing with throwaway code.
Lately I’ve been trying to automate ersatztv channel setup but it doesn’t have an API so I’m writing to its sqlite database and hoping that will work.

Personally I prefer theaters so I think that price is high, yes. But rentals also used to be less convenient because the wait was longer and the TVs were lower quality.
I can understand not being interested in the movie or the price point or digital “ownership”, but why does it make them scammers to offer the purchase at a price that heavily amortizes down the cost per viewing?
The rental price is on par with two theater tickets and they’re not playing games with pretending like the purchase price should be double because you plan to watch it at least twice.
Bottom tier food. Bottom tier company. I don’t know why anyone eats this level of trash anymore. Inflation has hit fast food harder than other types of restaurants, or groceries. It doesn’t make sense justifying paying these prices for this when you can get better food for comparable prices now. There used to be an expectation that this food would at least be cheap.
Baseball is unwatchable to me anymore because of ads the announcers read during innings.
Everyone hates advertising, but it’s an unavoidable part of life and it’s never bothered me when there’s a 3 minute commercial break. I’ll mute it until the show comes back on and look at my phone or get up or something. Or I’ll fast forward if I have a buffer.
But baseball TV and radio announcers reading frequent quick ads between pitches or between at bats can’t be skipped/muted and it’s like fingernails on a blackboard for me. After 30+ years watching baseball, I’m essentially done with it now.
Everyone complains about ads but I seem to be the only one who thinks real TV with its easily skippable commercials is the least bad option. Streaming services aren’t going to let us control the video stream the way DVRs do.
Think about it like Craigslist. It will still be around in 5 years but it won’t be culturally relevant like it was. Just like Craigslist is still technically around, but no one talks about it and I don’t know anyone who uses it.
Twitter is too big to fail completely in the near future, just like Craigslist was.
