Ok so does anyone know why with #NVDA I cannot send an email in #Outlook? I hit reply, type the email, and cannot exit the edit area and find the send button. Latest release builds of Windows 11 pro, and Nvda 225. @main @mastoblind @NVAccess
@dhamlinmusic @main @mastoblind @NVAccess To send, I usually press ctrl+enter. I think alt+f10 exits the edit area but I’ve never gotten that to work, but alt+s or ctrl+enter should send it.
For sending a message, as others have noted, control+enter is the keystroke you want. Alt+s should also work.
Navigation in Outlook seems… a little flakey - if you press TAB, it inserts a tab stop into your email. If you press SHIFT+TAB immediately after pressing TAB it removes that tab stop.
If you press SHIFT+TAB at the top of the body of a message, it usually moves back to the subject then to fields. If you press shift+tab at other points in the body of the message, it sometimes moves to the subject and sometimes does nothing. Moving back to the top of the message then pressing shift+tab does seem to work more reliably.
F6 and SHIFT+F6 do move between parts of the window… just not the parts you might expect (Message body, ribbon, somewhere else in the ribbon, navigation bar, message list, then back to the body.
Control+tab seems to move from the message body to the navigation bar to the message list then back to the message body.
If you have the message open in a new window, rather than the reading pane, then control+tab doesn’t seem to do anything, and F6 only moves between the body of the message and the ribbon.
With NVDA not running, most of that still works the same, although shift+tab does seem to move reliably move from the body of the message to the subject regardless of where in the body you are. Not sure if that’s an NVDA bug, but happy for someone to write up an issue on that, or anything else :)
@dhamlinmusic @main @NVAccess I’m confused. Does ctrl+enter not work to send? What about alt+s? My confusion is about “finding the send button”, if I may say so.
@techsinger @main @NVAccess ah see I did not even know those were hotkeys, the last time I used Outlook on PC I could see, and it was the old Mail app on Windows 10, so that would likely be the issue. Though I could not leave the edit field at all which was odd, like what if I needed to check the recipient info?
@dhamlinmusic @main @NVAccess The new outlook… Look, the less said the better. It just raises my blood pressure :) As for leaving the field, shift+tab doesn’t work, right? Have you tried with object nav? I have never used the new outlook, I’m sorry to be so useless, but I use thunderbird and the last outlook I used was 2013.
@techsinger @main @NVAccess Yeah shift+tab did not work, and ESC to exit the edit field asked to discard the draft.
@dhamlinmusic @techsinger @main Just specifically on shift+tab, it seems to … be a little flakey - sometimes it does work from anywhere in the reply, but what I did find when I tested it, was that if it doesn’t work, if you press control+home to jump to the top of the message, it does seem to work more reliably. I’m not 100% sure why and it behaved nicely when I tried to test it in order to write up an issue… So do feel free to write up an issue if you can reliably repro it.
@dhamlinmusic @main @NVAccess What about f6/shift+f6? Does that do anything? Also, what about object nav?
@techsinger @main @NVAccess Tried the F6 ones and nothing, can never remember how object nav works, I tried both browse and focus modes without luck.
@dhamlinmusic @main @mastoblind Was thinking “I just saw this on RBlind earlier” and was going to reply… and then realised that my reply there is here (at least on your server, I can’t see it here on mine)… and… clearly I still don’t understand how Fediverse works…
