Similarly: When characters have a private conversation in a night club without screaming into each other’s ears.
David Lynch solves this problem beautifully in Fire Walk with Me by putting the conversation in subtitles.
That would make more sense but I have never been in any club where I can hear myself think, let alone anyone else.
And honestly isn’t that the point of clubs? It’s an antisocial social event.
Clubs are absolutely social events. It’s just that talking isn’t the primary form of communication.
Which puts me at such a disadvantage that I don’t bother socializing at one, and just shake my ass.
Shaking your ass usually communicates that you are having a good time at least
Similar one for me:
Character wearing no ear protection: GUNSHOT GUNSHOT GUNSHOT GUNSHOT GUNSHOT ducks behind a corner and starts whispering tactics with another character also wearing no ear protection.
Really want to see the pov of the second guy just watching the first ones mouth moving and the only sound you hear is RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNNG then the second guy just yells “HUUUH??”
I was watching Wednesday season 1 for the first time the other day. Without spoiling anything, the secret antagonist admits out loud to murdering several people and threatens to kill more while standing near Wednesday in a hallway at a police station. They aren’t talking loudly, or whispering, just kind of low enough so, ostensibly, only she can hear him. But when the camera pans back, you see that there is a cop sitting in the hall almost as close to them as Wednesday is standing. So there is no way the cop didnt hear every single word. And yet, no reaction at all.
It took me out of the show for a minute. I was like, “they could have even just… not had a cop be right there. They chose for the cop to be there, and yet they are apparently deaf.” Weird direction decison.
“Dodgson! Dodgson! We’ve got Dodgson here! See? Nobody cares…”
You notice that in movies the actors walk and talk, and on TV shows they stand still. It takes a lot of work to get a moving shot. Even a short walk from the courtroom to the DA’s office can take all day to do right.
the annoying bit for me is when they edit in the re-recorded audio and it’s not quite in sync with the video, or has odd inflection or loudness changes from one line to the next–obviously taken from different takes.
Tell it to Shakespeare.
It’s only annoying to me if they talk loudly and suddenly much later someone overhears them. I don’t mind people being loud for audio purposes but when they suddenly have to worry about being secretive it’s jarring.
