MOVIE SYNOPSIS: In the year 3016, an advanced supercomputer named “Alma” runs the Delta space station. But things go wrong when Alma develops human emotions and falls obsessively in love with an alien journalist named Oana.

When Oana rejects the computer’s advances, Alma goes rogue. What follows is a surreal cat-and-mouse chase across the galaxy, featuring bizarre aliens, floating geometry, and a heavy dose of 80s synthesizer music. --YT

As someone who mainly grew up in the States, in which a sort of ‘tight, standard toolbox’ of animation conventions were commonly used to fit target audiences, I found this film pretty dang fascinating. It clearly operates upon a different set of priorities, no doubt specifically aimed for a Romanian audience, first. But also based on techniques and ‘anime-tech’ of the time.

(note: “anime” is originally part of a French term for cartoons, i.e. “dessins animés,” so nothing to do with Japanese cartoons, in this case)

At the very least, do yourself a favor and skim through it. Of course you might groan here and there, but I’m thinking you might also mine some nuggets of wonder. 🙂

So, end of the day? This was not quite a ‘thumping masterpiece’ like some others in our TV & MOVIE NIGHT collection, but I found it fascinating for various reasons, and the sheer creativity was honestly fairly impressive. (bonus points for viewing stoned, but you certainly didn’t hear that here)

Meh. See what you think…
