I just need to preserve some old data that I have on my computers, so I was wondering what would be the best way to archive stuff long term.

Blu-ray disks ? Multiple HDDs ? What do you guys suggest ?

    Proficient in data archival, curation, compression and storage. Do these steps in order.

    • Curate data in tiers of priority for preservation. Organise.
    • Download appropriate offline software to ensure file format readability.
    • Compress videos. Survival of data is more important than 100% untouched bloated bitrate videos. HEVC @ CRF 23 VeryFast.
    • Deduplicate with Czkawka and https://github.com/0x90d/videoduplicatefinder
    • Use RAR with recovery record, or PAR to create redundancy records.
    • 3-2-1 backup strategy with multiple HDDs. Buy Seagate IronWolfs with appropriate shockproof casing.
    • Verbatim 100GB Blu-Rays for the ultimate long term storage, with a spare Blu-Ray writer kept sealed in box away from dust, moisture and vibration for future. Store Blu-Rays in a fire/dust/water/vibration proof box with the Blu-Ray writer, can even survive in floods. It is the most optimal for cost and longevity, way more cost efficient than LTO-5 tapes.
