You’re more right than most people realize. The Ouachita and Appalachian mountains were once part of the same mountain range, along with the Scottish Highlands iirc. You’re definitely right about that being a very old fossil if it is a fossil and if you found it in the Oachitas.

It’s all part of the Canadian shield in the end. I’ve heard the Ouachitas are connected to the Appalachians as well, all ancient rock.
Looks like (the beginnings of?) an arrowhead, hard to tell from a photo. They tend to turn up after a rain dries up.
I wonder if there are more pieces. Great rock. Excellent lines.
